Line of the Night: Chris Paul (1.99) may not be the entire Hornets team, but he’s sure acting like it. It was Paul’s second almost quadruple-double of the year, with 27 points, 10 rebounds, 15 assists, and 7 steals. However, it’s his fifth real triple-double this season, tops in the league (of course).
Honorable Mentions: No one is in spitting distance of Paul, but Shaquille O’Neal (1.07) is playing like a man trying to pay off a divorce settlement – he had 29 and 8 with 3 blocks; Dwyane Wade (1.07) scored 35 on13-19 shooting (let it be known the fastest way to a player rater’s heart is by having a hot hand); and Amare Stoudemire (1.04) had 22 and 15 with 3 blocks.
Waiver Wire Line of the Night: Nick Collison (0.81). Nenad Krstic got some buzz when he signed with OKC a couple weeks ago, but it’s the American as apple pie Nick Collison who is back at starting at center for the Thunder. Just like last night’s game – 12 points, 8 boards, 2 steals and 2 blocks – he’s never going to wow you with big numbers, but Collison usually brings just enough to the table to justify a pickup, especially in larger leagues.
The Biggest Loser: Mike Bibby (-0.9). The Hawks scored a franchise record low 27 points in the first half of their match up against the Heat, and much of that can be pinned on Bibby’s 2 point, 0 assist, 5 turnover performance. Said Joe Johnson about the game, “We just weren’t playing hard.” Amen brother.
All Eyez on Me: Indiana (17-27) at Orlando (33-10) – Orlando is in a huge slump, losing their last 2 games, while Indiana is 4-2 in their last 6 games. What does this have to do with fantasy? Nothing! I just wanted to write Danny Granger’s name.
Sacramento (10-35) at Cleveland (34-8) – What happens when the immovable object meets the very movable object? The Cavs should be in for some nice fantasy performances tonight, as the Kings are allowing opponents to score 115 points a game in their last 5 games (and that’s not even taking in account their 135-133 win against Golden State in game #6). The Cavs on the other hand, are allowing their opponents to score an anemic 88.0 points a game at home this season.
Denver (29-15) at Memphis (11-32) – Derrick Rose has clearly worn down as the season has progressed, but what about that other high-flying rookie, OJ Mayo? Well, yeah, a little bit. After averaging 20.4 points, 4 boards, and 2 threes a game in November and December, Mayo has slowed down in January to: 16.5 points, 3.7 rebounds, 1.5 threes a game. Still, I’d take that like a Tijuana prostitute.
