Line of the Night: It’s a proven fact that Dirk Nowitzki (1.13) can shoot. And yesterday he put on a clinic against the Heat, going 12-14 from the floor, 1-1 for three, and 5-5 from the line. It all added up to 30 points on 86% shooting and one LotN.
Honorable Mentions: Ben Gordon (1.06) did what he does best, going 5-7 for three and scoring 26 points; Chris Paul (1.05) hit 5 threes and scored 38 points (but only had 4 assists), which wasn’t enough to beat the Spurs; and may I suggest trying to trade for Charlie Villanueva (1.02) if you don’t already own him and can trick some gullible owner. Villanueva had a 27/7/6 in the Bucks latest win.
Waiver Wire Line of the Night: At this point in the season, the free agent performances seem to be in a bit of a rut. Every time Ronny Turiaf (0.7) blocks 4 shots, like he did yesterday, he appears high on the daily free agent list. The fact that he scored 4 points on 2-8 shooting and is single handedly trying to disprove that being a Warrior equals offensive nirvana I think is rightfully keeping people away from pick him up. But, if you’re desperate for blocks and rebounds, he is starting while Kelenna Azubuike is day-to-day with knee tendonitis.
And Quentin Richardson (0.63) appears every third game or so when he actually hits some shots. The problem, however, are those other two games where he’s a biggest loser candidate. Heading way down the list, Michael Finley (0.52) maybe? He busted out with 20 points against the Hornets, but it came off 8-10 shooting, thereby ensuring he scores abut 4 points in his next game.
The lesson? Don’t need anyone off waivers right now.
Injury of the Night: Bynum goes down! Just want all those Bynum owners wanted after he finally turned up his game three notches. Bynum will undergo additional testing today, but it appears he could be out for a while.

The Biggest Loser: Does Elton Brand (-0.62) deserve a pass because he’s currently working himself back into the Sixers lineup? Or should we hate him even more burning games with 5 point performances?
Rafer Alston (-0.54) – talk about guys who can’t shoot – was 1-8 from the floor against the Warriors and finished yesterday’s game with 2 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists.
All Eyez on Me: Smartly, the NBA is sliding all their games in before the Super Bowl tonight, so if you’re looking for something to watch before all those snazzy 3D commercials tonight, may I suggest Cleveland (36-9) at Detroit (25-20) on ABC. The Cavs have Zydrunas Ilgauskas back in their lineup after he missed most of the month of January with an ankle injury. In his first game back, Big Z jumped right back in with a 20 and 11 in 28 minutes.
