Line of the Night/ Waiver Wire Line of the Night: It wasn’t a great night for fantasy performances, but Roger Mason (1.14) got the start in Manu Ginobili’s place and made the most of his opportunity, scoring 25 points, going 5-9 from three and adding a couple steals. Ginobili is expected to miss the next 2-3 weeks with a stress fracture in his right ankle, which makes Mason a hot short-term add just like he was at the start of the season.
Honorable Mentions: Dwyane Wade (0.98) scored 25 points with 9 assists, 2 steals and 3 blocks; and Mehmet Okur (0.86) had 25 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 threes.
I’m not sure why Russell Westbrook (0.53) – 31 points and 11 assists – didn’t rank higher on the rater. He did have 4 turnovers, but Stephen Jackson (0.81) had 7 and was ranked higher. This will requite further investigation.
On the free agent angle, James Singleton (0.66) exploded for 19 and 12 in 25 minutes off the bench for Dallas, while Brandon Bass (0.51) scored a season high 20. Unfortunately, it came in a bit of a blowout game against the Kings. Singleton’s minutes in the three games prior to this had been 0, 0, and 0, so it’s best to leave him as a free agent, but Bass has been getting a consistent 20 minutes a game.
The Biggest Loser: I doubt he’s owned in many leagues, but remember when Mike James (-0.54) was on top of the world? I think it was about the same time Paris Hilton was on top of the world (most literally). Three years and 4 teams later, he’s currently starting for the Wizards and not doing much with it. In yesterday’s game, James went 0-6 from the floor and finished with 0 points, 1 rebound and 2 assists in 26 minutes.
All Eyez on Me: New York (23-31) at Toronto (21-36) – the debut of Larry Hughes and Chris Wilcox in Knicks jerseys! Laughs aside, Mike D’Antoni is fantasy K-Y Jelly, he gets all the parts lubricated and working smoothly together. If Chris Duhon can have value in his system, then Larry Hughes could be in for a bit of fantasy resurgence.
Boston (44-12) at Phoenix (31-23) – Everyone’s chance to see the new-old run and gun Suns, since this game is being broadcast on ABC. Both teams will be missing their big men – Amare is out for the long haul and KG is going to miss the next 2-3 weeks with a knee strain. As long as that means more Brian Scalabrine in our lives, it’s hard to complain.
