Wow, you owe me a new laptop after spitting out my coffee all over this one...that picture is epicly appropriate
  • Duncan33, Chauncey33, Nash34, Allen34, Camby35, Kidd37 seem like candidates to slow down this season. Maybe not all of them, but at least one ala Allen Iverson

Gotta think that D. Will and B. Roy (fucking nick-names) would be ahead of Harris. Harris is older than both of them I believe, and while the Nets might take off if they pick up a big fish in 2010, they might now. Both Williams and Roy have the keys to their teams, put up efficient numbers when their support is solid, and can shoulder the load when their teams get injured. Those sound like keeper characteristics to me.
  • Well, they all received fairly significant markdowns on their actual fantasy rankings from this season. Part of it depends on what kind of keeper league you're doing. For single-season keepers, I think they're probably good where they are, but if you're in a dynasty-type keeper league, then they should probably be a little lower since they have less time left before their expiration date.
  • Harris just turned 26, while Williams and Roy will be 25 in June and July (respectively). I guess Williams probably deserves to be higher than Harris because of his youth and also because of games played, but if you somehow have one or two of the three on your team, you're probably pretty set for next season no matter who you decide to keep.

    Where's Boozer??!?!?!?!?!?!?
  • Gee, I don't know. Would you keep Boozer over the other guys on the list? I wouldn't. And since these are my rankings, they reflect that.
  • Evan
How can you drop out a guy like Gay who finished top 25 last season.....and put Troy Murphy so damn high after 1 career season?!?!?!
  • I find your comment somewhat amusing since Gay is sort of like the Troy Murphy of last season, except that Murphy actually demonstrated the ability to average a double-double for two years in a row (and once before that too). Yes, that was 3 years ago, but it provides more positive data than I believe we have on Gay so far. Note that I did include Gay in the "second tier" guys.
  • Evan
You're insane, Boozer's been a top 20 guy for a while, Gay has crazy potential and Murphy can only go down from here. I'd take both those guys over Nate Robinson and Mike Bibby - all players I own in my keeper league. I'm goin with Chris Paul, Boozer, Gay and Murphy or Lopez - not Aldridge, Nate, or Bibby
  • According to the history of the Player Rater, Boozer has been a Top 20 guy once, and a Top 50 guy 3 times. As for Gay, all of his numbers are down from last year except his turnovers, and I think OJ Mayo is only going to take more and more of his shots. Nate Robinson is good to go until D'Antoni leaves the Knicks. Considering that I have Gay at ~56 and Bibby and Robinson are at 50 and 47, I'd argue that you're sort of splitting hairs by saying you'd keep Gay over Bibby and Robinson. I also have Aldridge as 3rd to last on my runner-up list, so I'm not even sure where he enters the conversation.
  • Evan
Let's throw out another terrible pick you have there. Stephen Jackson. The guy shoots below 42% and the TOs are disgusting. A guy that went in the 7th round of my draft this year 69th overall and just a terrible choice.
  • Okay, you're right about that. I was way overestimating Jackson based on his current production.

I do want to point out that Kevin Durant was taken at 61 in the average mock draft collected by GMTR, so saying someone was taking at 69th overall in a draft and using that as a reasoning for where they should be ranked as a keeper is kind of pointless.
  • Satten
Not to be harsh, Nels, but this list is an epic fail since Derrick Rose isn't on it. There's so much more I want to teach you about keeper leagues now, but I just don't have the time. Just know you are skewing way too old with your rankings.
  • Good to know. Like I said, I'm not actually in any keeper leagues, but maybe next year we'll start a GMTR Keeper League in addition to the normal Readers' League. Maybe even a dynasty league...
  • A.J
Thanks for the List. I would like to know your opinion of Nate Robinsons keeper value. Isn't he a FA this summer? Will his value dip with a new system? Or is he on the verge of becoming at least a 2nd tier star in this league?
  • Satten
Nels, if you don't mind me posting a link to another site, I wrote an extensive keeper article just last Sunday that got posted yesterday on SI.com. I thought you might be interested in it: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/fantasy/03/...
Let me know what you think....
  • That is an excellent article. I'm not sure about Derrick Rose being rated so highly considering where he's ranked right now. I guess it depends on what kind of keeper league you're in. It's hard for me to think that Derrick Rose would be in the top 2 or 3 players on someone's team, but like you said before, I have a lot to learn.

I will have to go through and revise my rankings at some point.
  • Hey Nels, let me give you a virtual pat on the back for throwing yourself out there with a keeper list, probably the most controversial fantasy topic out there.

And let me go on record as saying I’m probably less of a fan of Rudy Gay than you are. I kept him in one keeper league this season and he was an absolute disaster. He is an average at best scorer who was on a team that desperately needed someone to score last season. Now that the Grizzles actually put a little talent around him in OJ Mayo and even someone like Marc Gasol, we can see how mediocre he really is. Thanks for the 52% true shooting percentage Rudy.

Let me warn everyone now: Avoid keeping or drafting Gay in any leagues next year. Your team will thank me.
