    Theo Ratliff

    Theo Ratliff

The inspiration for this list, Ratliff joins the Spurs this season (his 5th team in four years) presumably to stand in the paint and be tall. He was able to average 1 block in about 12 minutes a game for the Sixers last season, so his one-dimensional game appears to be intact.

    Brian Cardinal

Currently employed by the Timberwolves, the 14 minute a game Cardinal has one year and $6.7 million left on his contract. On the plus side, he does find time to Twitter after rolling around in giant wads of cash that has been carefully laid out on his bed.

    Brent Barry

I love Brent Barry, but this is the definition of hanging-on way too long. The soon to be 38 year-old signed a two-year contract with the Rockets in 2008 and averaged a whopping 3.7 points a game for them last year.

    Jerry Stackhouse

Technically, the 34 year old Stackhouse is a free agent as the Grizzles bought out his contract immediately after he was traded from Dallas. But the man has recently worked out for the Knicks, which gives us all hope that we get to see Stack in the league again this season.

    Speedy Claxton

Few players have played less and collected more money than Claxton over the past three years. His contract finally expires at the end of this season and that expiring contract was traded to the Warriors this off season.

    Stromile Swift

Swift was the number 2 pick in the 2000 NBA draft. And it was all downhill from there. He’s currently a free agent after finishing out his contract with the Suns last season. He’ll likely be picked up by some team before the start of the season because, as they say, you can’t teach height.

    Jerome James

James was clearly one of the 10 worst contracts of all time, signed by (surprise-surprise) Isiah Thomas of all people. He was sent from New York to Chicago in the Larry Hughes trade last season. While he has not suited up for the Bulls, the lucky bastard has 1 year and $6.6 million left on his contract.

    Nazr Mohammed

There was a time long ago where Mohammed was on the fringes of fantasy relevance, a passable second center that you could pick up and use for short stretches at a time. Of course, that was 2004 and this is 2009. Mohammed averaged 8 minutes and 3 points for the Bobcats last season and is under contract with them until 2011.

I humbly submit Jeff Foster. I think he's fouling someone right now to get ready for the season.

How could you possibly forget about someone that the Four Fingers of Fantasy have projected at number 229 for this season????? (Since Patrick seems to have forgotten we're writing a draft guide: http://draftguide2009.givemetherock.com/)

how many NBA players do you think you can name off the top of your head? i'll even allow 1 sheet of paper and a pencil. go.

    • http://nelswadycki.com nelswadycki

How large is the sheet of paper? Can I use a pen? Is there a time limit, or is it just until I can't think of any more, or until my brain explodes with useless knowledge?

    • seanlb

      ok. i'll go with:
the paper is the size of a “love don't co$t a thing” poster. blank front and back.
you can use a pen, but it has to be a pen that Dirk used to sign a ball with
you have 4 quarters of 12 mins to name names.

Just because I rabidly tried to trade for him one year in Fantasy, I remember that Donyell Marshall is still with the Sixers as of now. Few people probably remember that he was a solid card-carrying member of the 1-1-1 club at one time, even fewer now care/remember if he's still playing in the NBA.

229 – that's a you guys problem. Last year was the first year where I didn't say, “Damn, I'm doing crappy in rebounds, how is Jeff Foster looking?”

Also, I would like to see some GM try to bring the Collins twins together. I think time is running out.

Jerome James…as a Knicks fan it still brings deep pains

I had to stop myself at 8 otherwise I would still be writing this post.

Gerald Green was another guy I had in my head that I left off the list.

Like the Ratliff comment. Reminded me of when I actually thought about picking him up for one week last season then remembered exactly what he does… nothing.

How could folks forget about Stackhouse? If he ends up in NY, he'll shine once again.
