Day 2 of 170: We Like Em Young

Time to Break up the Cavs: Believe it or not, LeBron (-0.03) and his triple-double had a rather pedestrian game score as the awesomeness of his 23/11/12 line was offset by the fact that he shot 37% from the floor and 57% from the line in a loss to the Raptors. I think LeBron owners will happily take that good along with the bad. The 0-2 Cavs now need to talk a long walk to figure some things out.

Line of the Night: Instead of LeBron, Jeff Green (0.90) has the most impressive fantasy line of the night simply by doing what he does best: which is a little bit of everything. Green scored 24 points and hit 4 threes with 8 boards and 3 blocks as the Thunder came out on fire against the Kings. In fact, every OKC starter looked good against the admittedly horrible Kings with the exception of Thabo Sefolosha.

Honorable Mentions: Brook Lopez (0.86) is proving GMTR right one massive double-double at a time. He had 27 points, 15 boards and 5 blocks and if you purchased our draft guide, you saw the giant hard-on we have for the man; Kevin Martin (0.75) – with 27 points and 3 threes – was 14-14 from the line and is always good as long as he’s healthy; we knew that Al Horford (0.71) could rebound, but 24 points from the kid is a good sign if you were expecting him to become one of the elite big men in the league; and Deron Williams (0.70) had 28 points and 13 assists.

Waiver Wire Line of the Night: DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANILO!

Danilo Gallinari (0.55) is the Knicks’ best outside shooter and arguably their best scorer. The 21 year old was 7-13 from behind the arc last night, scoring 22 points. All but 1 of his shots was a three. He’ll certainly have his ups and downs over the year, especially as he lives and dies by the three, but if you’re in need of a scorer who can drain threes in bunches, look no further than the Prince of Sant’Angelo Lodigiano.

Honorable Mentions: Shane Battier (0.54). Mr. Intangibles is worth an add (especially for those of you in roto leagues) simply because the Rockets have no one else to play. In 33 minutes on the court, Battier had 4 assists, 3 steals and a couple blocks. It’s enough to forgive the fact that he scored 9 points on 1-4 shooting AGAINST GOLDEN STATE; and the young Marreese Speights, who scored 26 points in 26 minutes for the 76ers, is talented to be sure. But the 10-11 he shot from the field on the night is a strong indication he will not repeat his strong performance in the Sixers’ next game.

The Biggest Loser: The emergence of Andris Biedrins (-0.39) will have to wait for another game. The big man had a snooze inducing 8 points and 5 boards in 31 minutes against the Rockets and their 6-6 center Chuck Hayes.

All Eyez On Me: The NBA rolls on with their usual short Thursday schedule. Two games tonight:

San Antonio (1-0) at Chicago (0-0) – Our first look at Derrick Rose and the almost-same-look Bulls (now with less Ben Gordon). Expect Tony Parker to play in this game after taking a hard fall in the Spurs first game.

Denver (1-0) at Portland (1-0) – Battle of the undefeateds! Ty Lawson had a nice looking game in place of the suspended JR Smith. He has 6 more games to showcase his talents and could be worth a short-term add until Smith returns.

Also excited to head the Rose Garden to see Blazers/Nuggets tonight. Also, got an email from the Blazers today offering half-price tickets to the Hawks game next week. I know there's no juice to this game, but they ain't the Grizzlies. Seems surprising that they're already discounting during the first week of the season.

Also excited to head the Rose Garden to see Blazers/Nuggets tonight. Also, got an email from the Blazers today offering half-price tickets to the Hawks game next week. I know there's no juice to this game, but they ain't the Grizzlies. Seems surprising that they're already discounting during the first week of the season.

The discounted tickets ain't a good sign for the overall health of the NBA economy, but it's a great deal for cheap-ass fans like myself. We'll see if it improves this year, but I'm surprised the Hawks don't have better attendance figures. It's a fun team to watch.

And yes, if Marc Gasol somehow slipped through the cracks in your league, take a long hard look at the man. He had the 6th best fantasy line of yesterday (this post stopped at Deron, who as 5) and he was the only bright spot in the Grizzlies loss to Detroit, scoring 21 points with 15 boards and 3 blocks in 30 minutes. Hasheem Thabeet is not going to do anything this year for the Grizz.

I was surprised about the ticket offer because Portland is so Blazer crazy, especially after last year (I'm a transplant). The economy is hitting us hard out here. Plus, all the home and away games are going to be HD this season, which is probably help to keep fans at home.

Plus: Yahoo had this note on Gasol:

C Marc Gasol got off to a fast start, with 21 points and 15 rebounds against the Pistons. Gasol, who lost 40 pounds in the off-season, looked fresh from start to finish. But coach Lionel Hollins wasn't impressed. “It's not all about scoring,” Hollins said. “He (Gasol) didn't guard anybody, he didn't block any shots.”

So were those 3 blocks more like slight grazes or favorable scoring decisions? Weird.
