Line of the Night/Waiver Wire Line of the Night: With Beno Udrih out of this game because of a virus, the Kings shifted Tyreke Evans to the point, Andres Nocioni to SG, and started Donte Greene (1.95) at SF. The changed worked for at least one night against the Knicks, as the Kings won 111-97 and Donte Greene registered career highs across the board: 24 points, 6-7 from three, with 6 blocked shots. Greene is uber athletic and can be a great defensive stopper type, but I order you to officially temper your expectations. One, Udrih should be back any day now, likely pushing Greene back to the bench. Two, the game came against the Knicks. Three, Greene shot 26% from three last season, so he’s not going to be taking or (especially) making that many threes again any time soon.
The rest of Greene’s game, however? That is legit.
Honorable Mentions: Monta Ellis (1.62) is thankful that his shot was falling against the Spurs, as he dropped 42 points and shot 16-25 from the floor and 9-10 from the line; Gerald Wallace (1.38) is thankful he hasn’t missed a game yet this season, which has let him put up crazy stacked lines like this: 31 points, 13 boards, 2 steals and 2 blocks; Dallas is thankful that Jason Terry (1.32) is not Allen Iverson and he can happily come off the bench to score 27 points on 10-11 shooting (4-4 from three) with 10 assists; and Tim Thomas (1.31) is thankful he’s still getting a paycheck – the 24 points he scored in 24 minutes off the bench for the Mavs yesterday is just gravy.
It’s Official: Speaking of Allen Iverson, the man just announced his retirement from the NBA. After a failing to find a role to his liking on the Bobcats Grizzlies, then quitting on the team only to discover that no one else wanted his services, Iverson announced his retired in a statement that he released directly to Stephen A. Smith. Iverson has hinted that he’d be willing to unretire if any team was interested, which of course, no one is.
The Biggest Loser: What does Eric Gordon (-0.63) have to be thankful for? Well… ah… geez. Gordon scored 6 points on 2-7 shooting against the Pacers, grabbing 2 rebounds with 0 assists and 3 turnovers in 2 minutes off the bench. The entire Clippers team finished the game with 73 points. Last I checked, that’s not a good way to win basketball games.
All Eyez on Me: Who needs football? The NBA has two Thanksgiving Day games:
Orlando (11-4) at Atlanta (11-3) – The Magic travel to Atlanta to face the team with the best record in the Eastern Conference – that’s right – your Atlanta Hawks. If he’s available in your league, check out Jason Williams who has averaged 20.5 points and 5 assists in the Magic’s last two games.
Chicago (6-7) at Utah (7-7) – A battle of two teams who are strug-ga-ling. Joakim Noah is one of GMTR’s surprise-players-who-will-continue-to-be-good. He and Luol Deng are just about the only two Bulls who are exceeding our expectations this year.
A happy Thanksgiving Day to everyone out there.
