Line of the Night: Carlos Boozer (1.27) was a one-man stampede against the Bulls. Or, maybe it would have to be that he went all Miles Davis on the Bulls? Whatever the case, he had 28 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 blocks while shooting 86% from the floor. Looks like it’s time to break out the old adage: If you have a big man playing against the Bulls, get him in your lineup. Joakim Noah and Taj Gibson aren’t stopping anyone. And even when T-Squared gets back, the on-the-ball defense doesn’t get any better. But, whatever you say about the Bulls front line, Boozer is now the 6th player to have 2 Lines of the Night.
Honorable Mentions: Luol Deng (1.05) – here we go – was a one-man stampede against the Jazz. But, now picture Luol Deng actually trying to stampede through the entire Jazz team. Given that, it’s impressive that he was able to come away with 26 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 steals.
Waiver Wire Line of the Night: Anthony Johnson (0.57) got in a season-high 21 minutes compared to starter Jason Williams‘ 27, and was very efficient, netting 17 points on 3 threes and 60% FG shooting. He only added 2 rebounds and 3 assists, though, and that was easily his best game of the season, so I wouldn’t count on him to provide value in anything more than the deepest of leagues. Jameer Nelson has already missed 5 games, and it took Johnson this long to step up. Not a good sign.
With only 2 games last night, there aren’t even any other WW candidates worth mentioning.
The Biggest Loser: I’m a little surprised that Brad Miller (-0.51) is still owned in 51% of leagues considering he’s averaging 22 minutes per game and shooting an astonishingly low 41%. Even relative to the rest of the Bulls – who are having trouble hitting the side of a cow – that’s pretty mediocre. For the record, he now joins Kevin Durant and Luol Deng as the 3rd player to be the Biggest Loser on 2 different days. Of course, Durant is also 1 of only 6 players to have had the Line of the Night twice. Miller and Deng cannot claim that title even once.
All Eyez On Me: New Jersey (0-15) will play the Kings (6-8) tonight. I only point this out because the Kings are pretty bad, so NJ has a chance for their first win… And because there’s not really anything else of interest on the schedule.
The Golden Ticket: The Knicks are in Denver tonight, so there should be a lot of scoring, rebounds, and general mayhem there.
