Line of the Night: In a night with triple-doubles and 41 point scoring performances, it was Dwight Howard (1.05) and his 13 points on 5-7 shooting that took home the LotN. Of course it helped that Howard pulled down 20 rebounds and blocked 4 shots. Unfortunately, Howard is only averaging 17.8 points a game this season compared to 20.7 last season. It’s the same problem that Amar’e Stoudemire is having. Howard is actually shooting a career best 63% from the floor, but he is taking 3.5 less shots a game than in 2008-09. The difference this season? You can probably blame Vince Carter for siphoning the ball out of Howard’s hands.
Honorable Mentions: Anthony Randolph (1.02) continues his up and down season with 8 blocked shots in a starting role for the Warriors. He’s good to go as long as Biedrins and the rest of the team remains out; Channing Frye (1.00) had 24 points, 6 rebounds and 4 threes in a loss to the da Thunda. He’s good to go as long as he’s knocking down threes; Michael Redd (0.94) was 15-15 from the line and finished with 32 points against the Wizards. He’s good to go as long as his knees are; the only thing you need to know about JR Smith’s (0.93) game was that he was 10-17 from three; and Tyreke Evans (0.91) scored 28 points with 5 assists in an overtime loss to the Cavs.
Waiver Wire Line of the Night: Jerryd Bayless (0.89) got this start yesterday for an injured Brandon Roy, and made the most of his opportunity by scoring a career high 31 points with 7 assists in 42 minutes. Roy has a sore shoulder and will go for additional tests on or after Christmas Day. Consider him day-to-day for now, but if he were to miss big time, Bayless becomes a must add in all leagues.
Roger Mason (0.56) had a very efficient 26 minutes off the bench for the Spurs, going for 16/5/4 with 4 threes. When Masion gets 25 or more minutes off the bench, he’s a very effective fantasy player. Unfortunately, lately he’s been mixing in those 25 minute games with 7 minute games.
The Biggest Loser: In the spirit of Christmas, the Biggest Loser will take the day off. Everyone might not be a winner today, but we all have our special talents.
All Eyez on Me: No games today. Enjoy the Holiday and keep an eye out for Santa!
