Day 64 of 170: Kobe Would Like To Thank Golden State

Line of the Night: Kobe Bryant (1.52) played 43 minutes because for some reason, the Lakers couldn’t dominate Golden State like they have against most of the other weaker teams they played in December. They better hope the Warriors don’t get their act together and move up to that 8th seed… Could be another Dallas style nightmare.

Haha! Yeah, right. Like Kobe would ever let that happen. He scored 44 points last night, and he’ll score as many as it takes for the Lakers to win come playoff time. Kobe also added 11 assists, and was 16-16 from the line. So, if you have him, you’ve probably already won free throws for this week.

Honorable Mentions: David West (1.12) also scored 44 points, and added 12 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals. Gilbert Arenas (1.02) continued to ramp up his game with 24 points (4 threes), 7 assists, 8 rebounds, 3 steals, and 2 blocks. I’m starting to smell some steak cooking on the Hibachi.

Waiver Wire Line of the Night: Brad Miller (0.50) is technically the guy to go with (16 points in 23 minutes with 2 steals and a block), but as mentioned, he only played 23 minutes, and it was against the Pacers, who are not exactly titans of the industry.

CJ Watson is next up on the list, with his 14 points (4 threes), 4 assists and 2 steals, but I had him on my roster during his run of 5 points, 4 points, and 5 points, so I’m very hesitant to recommend him, even thought his last 3 games (since I dropped him) he’s gone for 14, 11, and 14 while averaging almost 3 steals per game.

The Biggest Loser: This week’s sign that a lot of people have already lost interest in fantasy basketball: Charlie Villanueva (-0.68) is still owned in 68% of Yahoo leagues, despite the fact that he’s averaging less than 4 points over his last 5 games. FIVE GAMES PEOPLE! Of course, I doubt all those people are still using him, but it’s not like things are going to get better for him now that Tayshaun Prince and Richard Hamilton are back and playing 27+ minutes per game, and Chris Wilcox is evidently the backup PF of choice in Detroit now.

Related, but not, I kind of like the Pistons lineup of Stuckey, Hamilton, Tayshaun, Jerebko, and Big Ben Wallace. If they can find a better (i.e., younger) Center, they’ve got a pretty decent team going forward.

All Eyez On Me:

My eyes are on Khloe Kardashian and Lamar Odom to see what they’re going to be wearing for New Year’s Eve. I mean, last year, she was out with a B-List baller, who’s now fallen to a free agent (and we’re not talking fantasy basketball waiver wire here). This year, she’s got a big old ring and a $7.5 million man.

Okay, really, though: Atlanta is playing Cleveland. Hotness. Boston at Phoenix will be an important gauge of what exactly is going on in beantown. You think they miss Paul Pierce?

The Golden Ticket: New York in New Jersey. I’m not sure that there’s a Net capable of taking advantage of the Golden Ticket at this point, but it can only be good news for the Knicks.
