I know most people/bloggers/journalists had their “of the Decade” lists up on December 31st, but.

Lester’s Legends hosted the Roundtable this week, in which we discussed (or rather, emailed in our opinions) of the Fantasy Player of the Decade.

Here’s what Patrick and I had to say:

Nels: I’m going with Kobe Bryant. According to the Give Me The Rock Player Rater, Kobe averaged 4.375. LeBron and Chris Paul were sort of tied for 2nd since they both had at least 1 year where they weren’t in the top 20 (which was enough to push their averages down to 8 and 10.25, respectively). Plus, Kobe played in more seasons than those other two, which makes his average ranking that much more impressive.

Patrick: Kevin Garnett. While he’s certainly not the player of 2009, only Kobe can rival his fantasy consistency year-to-year over the entire decade. According to the GMTR Player Rater, KG finished on the top of the list twice in 2004 and 2005 (Kobe also finished first twice as well in 2001 and 2003) and was in the top five every single year until he was traded to Boston. Average-wise, he does come in slightly worse than Kobe at 5.1 compared to 4.4 for the decade, but he plays at a scarcer position and was an anchor for teams in those all important rebound and block categories. KG was the player I remember being drafted 1st year after year and he always delivered.

For the rest of the answers (I was tempted to derisively call them “guesses” but that sort undermines the whole “roundtable” idea. That idea being love and friendly conversation between fantasy basketball bloggers), you’ll have to check out Lester’s Legends.
