Line of the Night/Waiver Wire Line of the Night: Am I getting tired talking endlessly about Carlos Delfino (1.33)? No, not as long as he’s still only owned in 31% of fantasy leagues. Delfino came oh so close to a triple-double yesterday with 24 points, 8 boards, and 8 assists. He was 9-11 from the floor and 4-6 from three in the 127-94 Bucks win over the Wolves. It’s the third game in a row that Delfino has started at small forward and you can pencil him into that role going forward based on the way he’s played in those starts.
Honorable Mentions: Dwyane Wade (1.2) with 27 points on 11-15 shooting led the Heat as they utterly destroyed the Kings 115-84. He also had 8 assists and 3 blocks and is shooting approximately 110% from the floor since he got injured; Brandon Jennings (1.1) dropped 18 points and a career-high 13 assists (ok, it’s been a short career so far) on the Wolves; lately Kevin Durant (1.01) seems to appear on this list every time he plays a game. The kid scored 34 points with 10 boards against the King and the Cavs; speaking of the King, Lebron James (0.94) missed a triple-double by a single rebound and could only finish with a measly 37/9/12 line; and Martell Webster (1.0) led the Blazers to a win over the Pistons by going 6-13 from three and finishing with 28 points. Webster will continue to get plenty of scoring opportunities this upcoming week as Brandon Roy is expected to be out until the end of January with a strained right hamstring.
The Biggest Loser: Kevin Martin (-0.79). Really, not even a close one today. The entire Kings team folded in this one as Spencer Hawes led them in scoring with 14 points. But Martin’s 5 points on 1-7 shooting, 1 rebound, 3 assists and 5 turnovers stood head and shoulders below the rest.
To say that Martin’s reassertion into the King’s lineup has been shaky would be a huge understatement. The Kings are 0-6 since he came back and have lost by 10 or more points in all but 1 of those losses. As for Martin himself, it’s his second 1-7 shooting game in a row and the third time he’s scored in single digits since his return. Like the Kings, if you are a Martin owner you just have to hold onto him at the moment and wait for things to get better. There is no reason to dump him at this point for less than full value in return.
All Eyez on Me: Three games today competing against the playoffs of some other sport I’ve never really heard about.
Dallas (28-15) at New York (17-25) – GMTR wunderkind Nate Robinson sat out the second half of the Knick’s game on Friday with a strained hamstring. He’s questionable for this game but since it’s on National TV, he probably be trying like hell to get back on the court today. If Robinson were to miss any time, well Chris Duhon can breather easy for the moment and Larry Hughes might actually get some run again.
Los Angeles Clippers (19-23) at Washington (14-28) – Only the best when you’re looking to take eyeballs away from the National Football League. Well, technically it’s on before the first playoff game, which is a very good thing from a ratings standpoint. Player to watch in this one: Craig Smith.
Los Angeles Lakers (33-10) at Toronto (22-22) – Jarrett Jack isn’t making things easy for Jose Calderon owners. Jack dropped 27 points in the Raptors last game and got 34 minutes to Calderon’s 25. Thins will eventually reverse course for Calderon, but the question is, how much longer do we have to wait?
Player to watch in this one: Rasho Nesterovic, who got the start on Friday in place of an injured Andrea Bargnani. Bargnani is day-to-day with a sore back.
