Line of the Night: To everyone worried about the shaky return of Kevin Martin (1.0) into the Kings lineup – he’s going to be fine. After making a total of 3 shots in the 3 games prior, Martin was 10-18 from the floor and 4-7 from three to finish with 33 points, 7 rebounds and 2 steals in 38 minutes on the court. The Kings ended up losing the game (again), but Martin and Tyreke Evans (0.13) co-existed on the court well together as Evan finished with 25 points, going 13-15 from the line. No, the real losers in this one were the rest of the Kings lineup, as no one else on the team scored more than 8 points in this game. Spencer Hawes finished with 6 and Jason Thompson 7.
Honorable Mentions: If you were lucky (or unlucky depending on how you look at it) enough to hold onto on to Paul Millsap (0.92) for the entire year your patience has finally been rewarded. With Boozer sitting out with a strained calf, Millsap tied a career-high with 32 points against the Kings, adding 14 rebounds and 7 assists. That’s what we call stepping into the lineup without missing a beat. Boozer is going for more tests on Monday, but it appears that he could miss at least a week if not more, so expect Millsap to be an absolute beast as long as Boozer is out.
Nels wasn’t sure what kind of game would come from the slow down Bobcats against the sped up Warriors. However, the results were fantasy gold as usual. Stephen Jackson (0.81) scored 30 for the Bobcats, finishing 12-22 from the field with 3 threes; Stephen Curry (0.81) had 22 points and 9 assists for the Warriors; and Gerald Wallace (0.7) rounded things out with 30 points and 13 rebounds.
Waiver Wire Line of the Night: Rudy Fernandez (0.65) scored 25 points in 25 minutes, certainly helped by the fact that he was 5-6 from three against the Rockets. Fernandez has now put up double-digit scoring numbers in 3 of the Blazers last 4 games and will get enough run while Brandon Roy is out to be worth a short-term add.
A reminder to pick up new Hornet shooting guard Marcus Thornton (0.5) if he’s still available in your league – he dropped 20 points against the Bulls; and Nicolas Batum (0.36) had a nice game of 12/9/5 for the Blazers in this third game back returning from surgery. Pick him up in place of Martell Webster if you can.
The Biggest Loser: Rodney Stuckey (-0.5). 4 points on 1-6 shooting for Stuckey, who added 2 assists and 4 turnovers against the Heat. Miami’s Rafer Alston (-0.14) didn’t fair too much better in this one, going 1-7 from the field and scoring 2 points, although he did have 7 assists.
All Eyez on Me:
Portland (27-21) at Dallas (30-16) – The Blazers have lost three straight, but will again be without Brandon Roy for this game. Look for Jerryd Bayless, Rudy Fernandez, and Nicolas Batum to pick up the slack in this one, at least statistically. No comment on the actual winning of the game.
New York (18-27) at Washington (15-30) – David Lee got the all-star game snub, but if it’s any consolation, Lee is a fantasy all-star in our hearts as he currently sits at #20 on the GMTR player rater. He’s our third ranked “center” in the league behind Brook Lopez and Tim Duncan. That’s an all-star in my book, however flimsy and illiterate that book is.
