Day 98 of 170: Paul Millsap is a Beast

Line of the Night: We all know what Paul Millsap (0.99) is capable of when Carlos Boozer is out of the lineup and Millsap gets to start. Oh, say, something like what he did last night against the Mavs – 25 points on 10-16 shooting, 9 rebounds and 4 blocked shots. Millsap makes a great play for as long as Boozer is out (sounds like the rest of the week if I did my Boozer injury math correctly) but we all know that Millsap will return to the bench when Boozer comes back. If you want to flip Millsap for something of value, now is your chance to sell high.

Mavericks Jazz Basketball

Honorable Mentions: Bill Simmons’ crunch-time MVP Dirk Nowitzki (0.85) didn’t get an opportunity to take a game winning shot in this one, but he did score 28 points on 11-18 shooting (have we mentioned recently that the fastest way to a player rater’s heart is by having a very efficient shooting game or playing great defense? It’s boring, but true); Deron Williams (0.78) returned after missing a game for the Jazz due to personal reasons to score 18 points with 15 assists; and let’s round out this Jazz/Mavs recap with Jason Terry (0.71), who “only” scored 19 points, but made up for that with 8 assists and 4 steals.

All About Kobe: Kobe Bryant (0.56) dropped 44 points on the Grizzlies to pass Jerry West for the Lakers’ all-time scoring record. Kobe now sits at #14 all time and is eyeing Reggie Miller (25,279 points) who is next on the list. I now give Kobe a big round of sarcastic clapping.

Chris Paul What? It’s no comfort to Chris Paul owners who could not grab Darren Collison (0.32) off waivers before someone else did (ahem), but the rookie has picked up right where he left off the last time Paul was injured, finishing with 16 points and 14 assists in 36 minutes.

Waiver Wire Line of the Night: Well, he doesn’t play for Utah or Dallas and is not the Lakers’ all time scoring leader, but Andres Nocioni (0.69) had a sneaky efficient game for the Kings. He only scored 11 points, but added 3 threes and a couple blocks in 23 minutes on the court. From game to game, his minutes are up and down like a yo-yo, so we can’t exactly recommend him as a pickup.

Rather, Jared Dudley (0.57), the Suns forward who was a sleeper at the beginning of the year, turned bust, turned sleeper again, scored 12 points with 5 boards and a couple threes in 33 minutes off the bench. It is four decent-to-good games in a row for Dudley, who is worth a look in deeper leagues.

The Biggest Loser: Rafer Alston (-0.73) only got 19 minutes of run as the Heat got blown out by the Bucks, finishing with 0 points and 1 assist. Hopefully Alston is not a key piece of anyone’s team, but still, that’s a horrible game.

All Eyez on Me:

Memphis (26-21) at Cleveland (38-11) – Delonte West is still day-to-day with a broken finger and the Cavs aren’t saying much about when he’s expected back. Until then, Daniel Gibson makes a good play in all leagues. But the GMTR Player to watch in this one: Mike Conley, who has shot 29% from the field in the Grizzlies last 3 games. He breaks out of that slump today or your money back on this post.

Golden State (13-33) at Houston (25-22) – The Warriors head to Houston for what should be a fabtabulous fantasy game. The last time these teams played each other, Aaron Brooks exploded for 25 points with 5 threes. But keep an eye out in this one for Erik stalking Don Nelson as payback for what the coach has done to Anthony Tolliver.

what kind of value does he have? who can I get for him? value wise. not exact players because I know you dont know my team. but a three point SF would be nice.

Anyway, Millsap, depends on the relative gullibility of your league. Not everyone is going to want him, but you just need to try to find that one special owner. He's sitting at 112 on our rater for the entire season, which actually isn't too bad, so you'd want to try to get someone in the 80 or higher range. Do you trust someone like Mike Miller to be consistent for you? You could always shoot higher than that too, although no names come right off the top of my head that would fit what you want.

The other thing to focus on in moving Milsap is his potential value should Boozer go out or be traded. Either way Milsap becomes a lot more valuable and that scenario may help sway owners to buy high.
  • But yes, I forgot to mention that the possibility of Boozer getting traded should be included in any discussion of Millsap's potential value going forward. I guess it depends on the likelihood you think Boozer gets traded before the deadline. 50%? 99%? 5%?
  • Absolutely true, although people having been waiting for the Boozer trade since before the season started. Millsap was actually being drafted higher than Boozer in many a league under the assumption the Boozer would be traded quickly. The idea that Boozer could be moved at any moment has certainly increased Millsap's perceived value, unfortunately it has yet to do anything for his actual value.
