Seemingly Inconsequential: This is a test to see if Samantha Verdaguer is still actually reading this blog 47 days later: You want Threes and Steals? Sergio Rodriguez. Others would be wise to heed this advice.

Looking for McGrady/Martin advice? Patrick has that covered here.

Line of the Night: LeBron James (1.38) was without his newest sidekick last night, and the world continues to hold its collective breath. Or at least, the cities of Cleveland and New York do. James scored 43 points to go with 13 rebounds and 15 assists. He also had 2 steals and 4 blocks, while committing only 3 turnovers. If there was such a thing as single-handedly, this was it. James, without the help of the late departed Ilgauskas, nor that of the newly acquired Antawn Jamison, single-handedly took the Nuggets – fully staffed as near as I can tell – to overtime, and lost by a mere 2 points.

And so we proceed to the section I like to call:
Carmelo Proves Nothing: Don’t get me wrong, I like Carmelo Anthony (1.02). Unfortunately (for him and many others), we are entering the LeBron Era in which no one but LeBron is going to win a championship. I say this not just because of the addition of Antawn Jamison, but because most of the destinations that could in the running for LeBron’s future services have enough of a supporting cast to enable LeBron to will them to win. The proof is right here. Anthony scored 40 points, and his team ended up winning by 2 points, but if the Nuggets somehow make it to the Finals against the Cavs, the moral victory will be nothing more than shadow play with missing puppets.

Waiver Wire Line of the Night: Anthony Parker (0.13) is the best we’ve got from last night (you’d think this Cavs/Nuggets game was the only one on the schedule). But as soon as Jamison joins the team, his burst of productivity will settle back into solid, but not fantasy-worth role player.

Other worthy pick-ups? Perhaps you missed the part where I said Sergio Rodriguez at the beginning of the post.

The Biggest Loser: Rasheed Wallace (-0.57) is becoming one of those consistently inconsistent players. Last night he was 2-11 from the field, ending with 4 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 blocks. Not a bad line. For me to poop on. (First time I’ve ever made that joke on this blog. That I can remember.)

All Eyez On Me: Nothing like those powerhouse match-ups from last night, but Dallas @ Orlando is pretty close. We continue to monitor the New Mavericks and the one-man nuclear weapon Dwight Howard. (ooo, topical!)

Boston flies up to Portland after beating the Phantom Limb Lakers to take on Marcus Camby and the Trail Blazers.

The Golden Ticket: Utah (sans man-crush Ronnie Brewer) will run it, run it with the Warriors tonight, while Atlanta is in Phoenix to take on the Still-Amar’e Suns.

Don’t Forget: Play GMTR’s Weekly Fantasy Game. No, really. It’s fun!

I'm curious to hear what you guys are projecting for “Spanish Chocolate” in New York. His per 36 minute numbers are actually pretty shocking: 16.3 pts, 8.4 ast, 3.5 reb, 2.0 stl, 1.0 three. There's obviously no guarantee he gets that much run, but if he does…. look out!

  • jdunnisher

Personally, I'm expecting something similar to what we are seeing from Darren Collison in NOR if Sergio gets the starting gig.

  • http://givemetherock.com/ Patrick

I'd temper my expectations a little from that 36 minute a game average, simply because he's likely to become a less efficient player as his minutes increase. If he does start, I'd go with something more along the lines of his 30 minute averages: 12-13.5 points, 7 assists, 3 boards, 1.6 steals, and 0.9 threes a game. His FG% will probably drop a little and he'll turnover the ball a lot (3+ times a game). Still, those numbers are what you call an immediate add in any league.

  • jdunnisher

Yeah, I'm not expecting those per-minute numbers to be his averages. And his TOs will be quite high (currently 4.1 per 36 min). It was just interesting to see how productive he could be when given some playing time. Not to mention the Mike D'Antoni effect. I mean, if Chris Duhon can put up some of the lines he did in that system, just imagine what someone who is actually halfway decent could do…

On another note, The King's performance last night was RIDICULOUS. If he had even finished just 3-9 from three and 13-17 from the line (instead of 1-9 and 12-17, respectively), he could have had the first 50/15/10 game ever… as far as I'm aware. As it was, he put up the first 40/15/10 since Pistol Pete in 1974. Just insane!

Or if he hadn't missed all those gimme layups in the first half? Him and Melo both started pretty poor! I actually just dropped Delfino for Sergio on account of the Salmons signing. Was him or Nate Rob, but I just can't drop lil' krytpo!

  • tredigs

PS: Site's the scat Patrick, been following for a while now — cracks me up. Keep on keeping on!

  • jdunnisher

That's a good point – LBJ and Melo were a combined 4-20 FG at the half. I actually own both of them as my two keepers in a money league that I'm in and I was not pleased with the damage they were inflicting on my FG% for the week. The second half, though, was pure fantasy gold!

man i wish ya'll had a forum for trades. sorry for posting so much ij ust like to get ur opinions..what u think of tyreke vs mo williams + gasol?

I don't know how much better tyreke will be and am very very very mildly worried about a rookie wall effect. i think the trade does wonders for ihm but idk how much better he could actually get–he's nasty already!

Mo is back and when healthy he put up pretty dang good numbers. will he stay healthy? who knows. will he continue to put up #s with their new #2 option? I'd guess less points and a +- in assists as he gets less touches but has another weapon to go to. Also notable is me having Bron & Hickson which puts a lot of eggs in 1 basket. And..gasol is gasol

We actually tried out a GMTR forum a couple of years ago, but shut it down because my mom was the only one who posted on it.

Regarding the trade, unless you are talking about some third Gasol brother, that trade is way in favor of Williams and Gasol. I assume you mean Marc, who is actually ranked ahead of Evans on the GMTR player rater this season (#26 in 9-cat leagues compared to 50 for Evans) so Mo Williams is just gravy in that trade. Add in the fact that nearly every rookie hits that wall at some point (look at the crap Brandon Jennings is currently doing or better yet, look at what common Evans-comp Dwyane Wade did down the stretch his rookie season, he was good, but faded off) and it is by no means certain that Evans explodes down the stretch now that he doesn’t have Kevin Martin to worry about.

I’d still rather have Evans than Mo Williams, but Gasol is even better than those two.
