Day 117 of 170: The Triumphant Return of Tracy McGrady

Line of the Night: Danny Granger (1.65). The Pacers might not have much to play for, but don’t tell Danny Granger, who scored 36 points on 12-17 shooting. He was also 4-6 from three and had 7 boards and 3 steals as the Pacers spoiled Kevin Martin’s (0.32) less than spectacular debut for the Rockets with a 125-115 win.

Honorable Mentions: Jason Kidd (1.48) scored 21 points by impressively only taking 8 shots on the night. He also added 11 assists, 3 threes and 3 steals; David Lee (1.33) felt the magic aura of Tracy McGrady lift his game to a higher level and that higher level included 30 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists in a loss to OKC; and Stephen Jackson (0.92) continues to (dare we say quietly) put up solid numbers. Yesterday he dropped 35 points on the Bucks.

Speaking of Tracy McGrady (0.36), it wasn’t quite a 30 point explosion, but it was enough to make me pee my pants. McGrady jumped right into the Knicks’ new look lineup and scored 26 points on 10-17 shooting, with 4 rebounds and 5 assists. He was gassed after playing 32 minutes and had to sit for nearly the entire overtime, but it clearly demonstrates that D’Antoni is ready to hand over the reigns of the offense to T-Mac. I think it goes without saying that you want to grab McGrady if he’s somehow still available in your league.

Thunder Knicks Basketball

Our boy Sergio Rodriguez (-0.25) came off the bench behind Duhon for 26 minutes and only scored 5 points on 2-8 shooting with 6 assists. It’s an ugly line unless you compare it to Chris Duhon’s (-0.35) 0 points and 2 assists in 21 minutes. Now by comparison Sergio looks like the reincarnation of John Stockton. If only Stockton were dead.

Waiver Wire Line of the Night: So much for Taj Gibson (0.87) splitting time with Hakim Warrick (0.45). Gibson got 38 minutes of run against the Sixers and finished with 20 points on 9-14 shooting, adding 3 boards and 2 blocks. Warrick got 25 minutes off the bench, but still managed to score 15 points with 9 rebounds, 2 blocks and one monster dunk in the face of Thaddeus Young.

I was surprised to see that Eddie House (0.74) got 36 minutes off the bench for the Knicks (even in an overtime game) until I looked at their current roster and saw that yes, Eddie House is indeed their 6th or 7th best player at the moment. Yesterday, he hit 4 threes on his way to 24 points. I’d give it another game or two, but it appears that House is in line for some significant minutes with his new club and could be a great source of threes for the rest of the year.

With Baron Davis missing the game with a sore lower back, new Clipper Steve Blake (0.65) started in his place and finished with 11 points and 12 assists in 40 minutes on the court. Davis is day-to-day, but as long as he remains out Blake makes a great short-term play.

The Biggest Loser: Jason Terry (-0.46). A 4 point game for Terry, highlighted by a 0-10 shooting performance (0-6 from three). I don’t really know what else to say about that.

All Eyez on Me:

Cleveland (43-13) at Orlando (37-19) – It’s what we in the business call a statement game. Not for either team, no rather a statement game for Antawn Jamison to prove he is actually the final piece of the puzzle in a Cavs championship.

Sacramento (18-37) at Phoenix (33-23) – Carl Landry’s debut for the Kings was… meh. He started at PF and finished with a 10 and 8, but was just 4-11 from the field. Omri Casspi started for the Kings at SF and scored 15 points with 5 boards and 3 steals. Time to see what both of these guys can do against the Suns.

The Golden Ticket: Atlanta (34-19) at Golden State (15-39) – A visit to Oakland is just what the doctor prescribed for a Hawks team that could only manage 80 points against the Suns on Friday. Monta Ellis returned to the Warriors lineup on Friday as well, but shot only 2-14 from the field. Still, now is the time to get him back into you lineups.

Eddie House seems like a perfect fit in D'Antoni's system. He fills the role of guy-who-can-run-up-and-down-the-court-and-do-nothing-but-shoot-threes exceedingly well.

The Taj Gibson / Hakim Warrick thing is probably going to be a dilemma for the rest of the season. Especially when Joakim Noah gets back to playing normal minutes. My guess is they're going to end up splitting the time in such a way that neither will be worthy of a fantasy roster spot. They'll both have a few explosions that make you want to pick them up, but I doubt either will have the consistency needed for fantasy basketball.

House is that rarest of player who is not afraid to jack up a 26 foot three with 20 seconds remaining on the shot clock. You'd get pissed if he didn't make so damn many of them.

now i have buyers remorse on my bogut–>curry trade. sure curry's been awesome but according to coach's latest statement everyone's minutes are going down with about 20 games remaining–read:soon. ugh. meanwhile bogut continues to impress ;)

It could be worse. You could have traded Bogut for Jose Calderon like I did in one of the reader's leagues.

If I didn't already have Wilson Chandler and TMac, I would jump all over House. My former MSG companion called me from the Garden during the game and said it was the craziest scene since 1999. The crowd was chanting “T-Mac” so forcefully that D'Antoni had to put him back in the game. I'm thinking of ordering a TMac jersey with the number 22,000,000.

at least you didn't trade boozer for AR in that same league xD
