Line of the Night: Stephen Curry (1.79). On a night where Luis Scola (1.13) dropped 44 points on 20-25 shooting against the Nets, Curry’s fantasy line was still miles ahead of everyone else. Curry scored a not too shabby 35 points himself, going 5-7 from three with 6 boards, 10 assists and 4 steals as the Warriors spanked the Raptors (and not in a good kind of way). So much for the return of Monta Ellis affecting Curry’s offensive game, at least at the moment (although Ellis (0.55) who had 31 points and a career-high 5 threes, got his fair share as well).
Honorable Mentions: The aforementioned Luis “Scoring Machine” Scola has now had 4 straight 20+ scoring games and might be the real winner from the Tracy McGrady/Kevin Martin/Carl Landry trade; the uber bingo Josh Smith (1.16) finished with 18 points, 11 rebounds and 5 steals against the Pistons; and Jose Calderon (1.05) pulled down his first double-double of the season (sadly) with 24 points and 12 assists. He was 7-8 from three and 8-12 from the field. Calderon got 32 minutes of run in this game compared to Jarrett Jack’s 17. Rather than a trend for Jose, we’ll chalk this great game up to the fact that the Raptors were playing Golden State and, more importantly, they got blown out in Golden State.
Waiver Wire Line of the Night: Toney Douglas (0.91). TD, who is currently owned in 4% of leagues, got the start at PG for the Knicks yesterday and scored 21 points with 8 assists as they blew out the Mavs 128-94. I’d go on, but you should have stopped reading when I said “starting for the Knicks” and immediate went and added him in every league.
Travis Outlaw (0.49) got 41 minutes yesterday for Clippers and finished with 17 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. He was one of the only positive things on the court for LA and is worth at least checking out if your team needs some mid-ball. Matt Bonner (0.73) had 21 points in 21 minutes off the bench for the Spurs; and another Knick, Bill Walker (0.44), has strung together a couple strong games in a row coming off the bench.
Something that Just Made Me Throw-Up in my Mouth a Little: Don Nelson is six victories from becoming the NBA’s all-time winningest coach
The Biggest Loser: Mike Conley (-0.55). Not really known as a model of consistency, Conley could only manage 6 points and 2 assists in 27 minutes against the Nuggets. He’s been playing well enough otherwise, so it is more of a fluky game than one of those extended Mike Conley-I’ve-given-up-on-life type slumps. At least for now.
All Eyez on Me:
New Orleans (32-34) at Phoenix (40-26) – Chris Paul has returned to practice and could, possibly, maybe be back in a week. Or not. Despite his assurances otherwise, you’ve got to think some of it depends on the Hornets’ playoff chances after this week.
Boston (41-23) at Cleveland (51-15) – Expect Antawn Jamison to play in this one. MRI tests showed only a cyst in his ailing left knee. And the last time LeBron James faced the Celtics, he had a 36/9/7 in a blowout win.
Utah (42-23) at Oklahoma City (40-24) – Nice playoff implications in this game as these teams are battling for the 4th spot in the West. Jazzbots takes a look at three important questions for the Jazz, including the injured Andrei Kirilenko and the rejuvenated C.J. Miles.
