I say that because this season’s playoff race is already re-diggity-donkulous. I also say that because in my leagues – where I’m the commissioner – the playoffs start this week, and thus end on April 4th, thereby avoiding that annoying last Week-And-A-Couple-Days at the end of the season. This is also good for the people in those leagues (those being mine) who own LeBron James because the LeBron Jameses clinched a playoff spot yesterday with a big win over Patrick’s non-one-name-team, the Boston Celtics. James was not the best fantasy player yesterday, though.

    Dwyane-Wade-Mens-Health-Cover

Line of the Night: Dwyane Wade (1.30) scored 38 points in a win over Philadelphia. I think Wade is going to be huge for the next couple weeks at the Dwyane Wades try to keep their lead over the Raptors and beat out the Bobcats so they don’t have to play the LeBron Jameses. Of course, watching those two go at it for a 7-game first round match-up would be nothing short Legend… wait for it…

Honorable Mentions: Tyreke Evans (1.20) continued to give Stephen Curry a real race for the ROY trophy with 29 points (2 threes), 9 rebounds, 11 assists, and 2 steals. Amare Stoudemire (0.93) had an eye-bulging 36 and 12, while Deron Williams (0.87) had 27 and 14 of the other kind. And I bet he’s a lot happier with a loss to Oklahoma City than he would be if he were back at Illinois. Ouch.

Waiver Wire Line of the Night: Nicholas Batum (0.99) goes the dynamite! Batum was #3 on the night with 22 points (5 threes!), a steal, and 2 blocks. Okay, fine, he shot 78%, so technically he’s not eligible, but seriously, at this point, what have you got? Wesley Matthews (0.73) was impressive with 29 points, but he shot 82%. I suppose Donte Greene (0.62) gives you a 50/50 shot at double-digit points and a bunch of rebounds. You’re taking your chances wherever you go. You can probably tolerate the risk in daily changes leagues, but I wouldn’t be so sure about any of these guys in a weekly league.

The Biggest Loser: Jameer Nelson (-0.52) certainly didn’t help Orlando’s chances against the surging Bobcats with his 2-10 shooting, nor did he help them with much of anything else.

All Eyez On Me: Beware the Ides of March… A day after the so-called Sunday Showcase, there’s not much going on, but the Nuggets will try to push the Lakers for the top spot in the West when they take on the now-always-dangerous Houston Rockets.

The Golden Ticket: The Lakers try to hold off the Nuggets, and they have a good chance since they’re going against Golden State. Perhaps that will give Pau Gasol a few extra shot attempts. At what point do we start wondering what team he’ll be playing for next year?

New York at Philadelphia should be a good one for fantasy lines… except there’s not a whole lot of talent going on there…

    Still Waiting? … ary.

Don’t Forget: Play GMTR’s Weekly Fantasy Game. No, really. It’s fun!

Nothing like starting the playoffs against a 6 seed who just squeaked in with LeBron and Durant. And I'm still picking up random guys like Toney Douglas and Jason Maxiell to fill out my injuries.

lol how did that happen? I think I'm more or less happy…with the exception of my last Bogut for Curry trade. I secured 1st place by sucking less than 2nd place in the final week and get the week off to decide who to play at center. Robin Lopez? Channing Frye? Or do I take a stab at JaVale McGee or Varejao or Hickson, my only real choices off the wire…did I tell you I regret trading Bogut (4/4/4 games), no matter how well Curry's playing yet?

Guards: Tyreke, Kevin Martin, Curry, Iggy, Lou Williams, Eric Gordon
Forwards: Carmello, LeBron, Millsap, Thornton, Diaw
Centers: Boozer, Aforementioned center brigade (R. Lopez, Frye)

Can I ask for y'alls opinion one more time? I'm looking at picking up another center. After reevaluating I think the best options on the wire are Thompson, Varejao, Chandler.

I'm thinking of dropping Thornton for any of them..I can't play Thornton (he's behind the above depth chart at PF by Diaw and Millsap). My team is a bubble team at FG%, reb, stl, blk. Its underperforming surprisingly at FT%. I'm solid at Pts and pretty good at AST. I lose TO all the time. I am torn between the 3. Playing at their full potential, I'd say Chandler>Thompson>Varejao…but I was wondering based on next week (not this week) and the week thereafter, which of the 3 would be a better pickup. Or do you think its better that I just roll with Lopez or Frye at that crappy C spot I have left??

      Thanks, much appreciated!

Any way you can go back in time and undo that Bogut trade?

Ok, the big thing I’d need to know is if you are in a daily or weekly changes league? That would make a big difference the in strategy I use.

      Assuming weekly changes…

Here is what I would do in your shoes. The first thing is to evaluate exactly how strong and weak you are in the stat categories (ideally against the guy you are playing in round 1, if you have an idea). Being weak in FT% and TOs doesn’t exactly leave you a lot of wiggle room to throw away rebounds and blocks as well, so you might need some luck here (although swapping Curry for Bogut is a big FT% boost).

Further assuming that you can be competitive in rebounds and blocks…

When you are discussing which middling center to pick up in a weekly changes league, the amount of games played that week is a HUGE factor. A guy playing 4 games vs. 3 gets a 33% boost in value by virtue of that extra game. Now unfortunately, next week the Bobcats, Cavs, and Suns all play only 3 times. So most of the guys you mention only play 3 times. Therefore, I’d rather 1) go with Jason Thompson (4 games) or 2) completely roll the dice with JaVale McGee (4 games). Thompson seems like the safer choice I guess.

      In a daily changes league…

I’d go nuts and stream guys the entire week, probably some combination of Lopez, Thompson, Varejao, Chandler and maybe even Jason Maxiell (if Bern Wallace is still out) depending how the games fell out. Basically, I’d get a guy in there every night who had a good chance to get some boards and blocks.
