Line of the Night: Not the greatest day of fantasy performances yesterday, so it is Monta Ellis (1.11) with the best line of the day thanks to a relatively modest 28 points, 5 steals and 2 threes. Since returning from an injury at the beginning of March, Ellis has scored 28 or more points in 4 of his 6 games.
Honorable Mentions: Derrick Rose (1.00) looked good returning from a wrist injury that kept him out the previous 4 games. He had 23 points, 5 assists and 4 threes in 37 minutes against the Sixers. Rose’s return means we can mercifully forget all about Jannero Pargo (-0.38). Chauncey Billups (0.97) was 17-17 from the line on his way to 29 points against the Bucks. If you have Billups in your lineup and don’t win FT% this week after he just went 29-30 from the line, then I think it’s safe to say you’ve got a problem with the way your team is built.
Waiver Wire Line of the Night: I always get C.J. Miles (0.76) confused with C.J. Watson for some reason. I’m just brainstorming here, but it might be the names. Miles, the Jazz swingman, got his second straight start because Andrei Kirilenko is currently out with a calf injury. He made the most of it by hitting 8-11 shots, scoring 19 points with 3 threes. The Jazz play 4 times next week and Kirilenko is currently day-to-day. Based on his history of injuries, it wouldn’t surprise me if Kirilenko missed the entire week of games, but Miles is a risky addition because AK could be back sometime next week. I stress the word “could”.
Quentin Richardson (0.65) continues to bomb threes. He was only 6-14 from the field against the Bobcats, but those 6 shots he made were all threes. He finished with 18 points and 5 boards in what sounds like a horrible 77-71 game where the Bobcats shot 29% from the field as a team.
Ersan Ilyasova (0.37) came off the bench for the Bucks and finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds in 31 minutes. It was his second straight double-double and he’d be worthy of a pickup for next week if the Bucks didn’t play just 3 games is worth taking a look at because the Bucks actually play 4 games next week.
The Biggest Loser: I really thought it’d be someone from the Bobcats, but Andre Iguodala (-0.73) was throwing up bricks against the Bulls. He did manage to score 11 points, but man was the road to those 11 points rocky – Iguodala shot 3-11 from the floor and 5-10 from the line in the loss.
Andrea Bargnani (-0.45) finished with 5 points and 3 rebounds in 27 minutes for the Raptors. No Bosh, really, things will be better next year in Toronto… Just stay.
All Eyez on Me:
Portland (42-28) at Phoenix (43-26) – Blazers Edge previews this game, predicting good things for Brandon Roy (makes sense) while Bright Side of the Sun waxes on some more about Amar’e Stoudemire.
Houston (35-32) at New York (25-44) – Tracy McGrady matches up against his former team. Despite assurances otherwise, I’m sure that McGrady is going to have a little extra motivation for this game.
Washington (21-46) at Los Angeles (51-18) – It was only a matter of time. Andrew Bynum, who left Friday’s game with an injury, has a strained left Achilles’ tendon and will be out until at least April. It was a good run for Bynum, who still could be back before the start of the playoffs (although I wouldn’t bet on it), and now Lamar Odom will take over his starting spot. And before possibly sticking them in your lineups for next week, here is one more opportunity to see what kind of number we can expect from Shaun Livingston and JaVale McGee.
