If Pau Gasol drafted himself in fantasy, he must be killing it in his league.
Line of the Night: Technically, BOTH Pau Gasol AND Al Horford share this honor (1.39), but seeing a center grab a rare trip-dub, just takes things over the top. Not to take anything away from Horford, but he only had to deal with Phoenix’s paper-thin front court as the Suns shot their way to victory. Jason Collins started at center for the Hawks, so that meant Horford got to “have his way” with Hedo Turkoglu (in a basketball sort of way). Al scored 30 points (13-16 from the field), grabbed 10 boards, shared the rock successfully five times, and chipped in a steal and two blocks. While that was fine and dandy, Pau Gasol erupted for 20/14/10, zero turnovers and three steals, in nine less minutes of playing time compared to Al. We were a lot higher on Pau, than most fantasy basketball sites during the pre-season, and now you know why…
Honorable Mentions: Steve Nash (0.86) led his Suns in handing the Hawks their first loss of the season via a 19-point, 15-assist night. We love it that he only committed two turnovers. A trey and solid percentages rounded out his night. Kevin Durant (0.80) had to work extra hard, because Jeff Green missed the game due to a sprained ankle. KD came up with 24 points, six rebounds, two threes, two steals, and probably won his owners’ FT% cat on the last day by going 10-11 from the line.
Waiver Wire Line of the Night: Jordan Hill (0.50) played some a solid game in 24 minutes on the floor with 14 points, six boards and two blocks during Houston Rockets’ thrashing of the lowly Minnesota Timberwolves. Yes, Yao played, but for only 16 minutes. Jordan Hill is looking like a solid project for Adelman to develop for the future. It wouldn’t surprise us if he becomes Yao’s primary relief off the bench over Chuck Hayes as the season moves forward. If you’re in a deep league, you may want to click that little flag beside Hill’s name that slides him onto your watch list.
And just to piss off Patrick, Rudy Fernandez (0.39) finally showed up as he came back from the back injury that was hampering him over the last couple of games and chipped in 13 points, two treys, three assists and a steal in 19 minutes on the floor in Portland’s loosing effort against the Lakers.
Quick Pick-up: Aaron Brooks is expected to miss two weeks with what’s been diagnosed as a probable grade 2 sprain. Kyle Lowry and Ishmael “Ish” Smith are expected to carry the load left behind at the point.
The Biggest Loser: After being one of the “flavors of the week” in fantasy in Week One, Wilson Chandler (-0.54), had a less than pedestrian night off the Knicks’ bench, going for 4 of 14 from the field en route to 11 points in 24 minutes of action. He added a trey and a steal, but was still quite meh compared to what his owners were getting used to start the season. As long as Danilo Gallinari stays hot, expect more so-so games from Chandler.
All Eyez on Me: GSW @ TOR is primed to give us a fantasy fest, well at least the Warriors’ starting five and Andrea Bargnani. I’m also giddy to see what Marc Gasol can do as the Grizzlies host the Suns. Somehow, “Boom, Boom, Marc!” won’t have the same ring to it. Well him and the dude we can no longer call “overpaid” (for now), Rudy Gay. It’s embarrassing to say that I only own Rudy in one fantasy league this season, and it’s also a league where my team was auto-drafted due to my absence on draft night. So yeah, I slept on him. Who didn’t?
