Line of the Night: Raymond Felton (3.40) took advantage of The Golden Explosion (aka the Knicks playing against the Warriors) to score 35 points (4 threes), dish 11 assists, grab 5 rebounds, and get 4 steals. Did it hurt that he shot 13-17 from the field? Certainly not.
Honorable Mentions: David West (2.41) scored 34 points, with 11 rebounds, and 3 blocks, going 14-20 from the field while teammate Chris Paul (2.17) scored 15 points, had 10 assists, and did his owners proud with 6 steals. I have to mention JaVale McGee (2.05) because he not only had a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds, but got 3 each of steals and blocks. Nice D.
Another piece of the Golden Explosion was Monta Ellis (1.94) and his 40 points and 3 steals. I’m pretty sure he and Stephen Curry could just each score 50 points a game for the rest of the season.
Waiver Wire Line of the Night: Darko Milicic (3.23) had a career game, putting up 23 points, 16 rebounds, while adding 5 assists (passing big man!), 2 steals, and a monster 6 blocks. Evidently he is the only Timber Wolf besides Kevin Garnett to put up 20-10 with 5+ blocks. You’ll hear Erik recommending him as his Waiver Wire pick on this week’s podcast, so it might be time for Darko to be taken seriously. Or at least, to be picked up in leagues by people who need blocks and some rebounds.
Pick Up Lines: Matt Barnes (3.20) had a nice game with 24 points (5 threes), 7 rebounds, 6 assists, and 2 steals, but he was a perfect 7-7 from the field as well as 5-5 from the line, so with the 5 threes there, I doubt the odds are high that a performance like that will be repeated. Just look at Barnes’ game log and you’ll see what I mean.
John Wall sat out another game with a sprained ankle, and Kirk Hinrich (1.74) filled in quite nicely with 22 points (1 three), 6 assists, and 2 steals. Not sure if he’s a good pick up now since Wall is still day-to-day, but he’s definitely the first guy to look to if Wall misses any more time (even later in the season).
Biggest Loser: Trevor Ariza (-0.77) continued his mediocre run as the Hornets SF by going 3-12 from the field to end with 7 points, 6 rebounds, and a block in 36 minutes of playing time. I’m sure I can’t be the only one not surprised by Chris Paul’s inability to make Ariza’s FG% a career high just by being out there with him.
On Tap: Dallas visits Atlanta after dropping one to the Bulls at home. I’m more interested to see how Dwight Howard fares against Roy Hibbert in Indiana (and vice versa) tonight. Utah at Portland would have been a good game for fans, but it’s probably more interesting for fantasy owners now to see if Brandon Roy will try to tough it out on his weak knees or if Wesley Matthews will continue his run as the Next Best Thing in Portland.
The Golden Rule: If you’re in one of those daily “not betting” leagues, then I’d definitely be looking at the Knicks and Clippers tonight. Even though NY probably wore themselves out a bit trying to keep up w
