Day 44 of 170: Where Kris Humphries Gets Some ‘Ashian

Line of the Night: How many points can someone like Andrea Bargnani (2.56) score on the Knicks? If you guessed 41, you’re a winner. Bargnani was an efficient 16-24 from the field against New York, adding 7 rebounds and 6 assists to his 41 points, but Toronto still lost 113-110 when Raymond Felton hit a game winning three with seconds left in the game. For the season, Bargnani has increased his scoring like we all thought he would (he’s at 21.2 ppg), but his overall fantasy value is down because of a drop in some of his other stats (most notably blocks).

Honorable Mentions: Speaking of the dynamic duo: Felton (2.08) finished with the third best fantasy line of the night by scoring 28 points and dishing out 11 assists (to go along with his game winning three), while Amare Stoudemire (1.77) scored 34 points, adding 14 rebounds and getting plenty of MVP chants from the crowd in New York. Not surprisingly, Knicks fans are running around right now throwing air punches like they’re Emilio Estevez in the Breakfast Club.

New York could have been LeBron James‘ (2.13) town, but he’s doing pretty well in Miami now that they’ve won 6 in a row. James almost had a triple-double with 33 points, 7 boards and 9 assists against the Jazz. Dwyane Wade (0.96) had another good game with 28 points. Chris Bosh (0.04) had a 14 and 9 which is, sadly, exactly what you’d expect from him now. For the Jazz, Al Jefferson (1.66) put up a 25 point, 11 rebound double-double against the Heat’s weak front line.

A game after playing 10 minutes against the Clippers, Jason Thompson (1.96) got 38 minutes of run and exploded for 22 points and 14 rebounds as the Kings steamrolled the John Wall-less Wizards. Since getting the starting role, Thompson’s games have been all over the place, which is not the way to endear yourself to either your coach of fantasy owners. I wouldn’t want to own Thompson, but take the good games with the bad and he probably averages a decent line.

The good Beno Udrih (1.58) has returned for Sacramento – he scored 23 points, with 6 assists, 3 threes and 3 steals. The Wizards were pretty barren fantasy-wise. Kirk Hinrich (1.16) put up their best line with 18 points and 4 steals.

Quick Hits: Zach Randolph (1.77) was an insane 15-19 from the field against Phoenix and used an overtime game to score 34 points, with 17 rebounds. Kevin Durant (1.76) dropped 30 points on the Wolves, adding 11 rebounds and 6 assist, while Serge Ibaka blocked a career-high 8 shots. Kevin Love (1.16) had a 22 point, 21 rebound double-double – his 5th 20-20 game of the season.

Waiver Wire Line of the Night: Reggie Williams (1.84) has the stink of fantasy disappointment all over him this year. He was drafted in a most leagues based on an impressive 24 game stretch last year and the fact that he plays for the one of the best offensive teams in the league. But Williams hasn’t had any consistency in a 6th man role this season, averaging only 9.9 points a game in 22 minutes. But with Stephen Curry leaving last night’s game against the Spurs with an apparent sprained ankle, Williams got extended run in his place and scored a career-high 31 points, off a career-high 8 threes.

Curry owners may want to proactively grab Williams. X-rays indicated that Curry’s right ankle is not fractured, but he is wearing a walking boot. And considering it’s his 4th ankle sprain already this season, expect him to miss some games to let his foot fully heal.

Pick Up Lines: We have a Pooh Jeter (1.65) sighting! Jeter – a 27-year old Kings’ rookie – got a career high 27 minutes off the bench in a rare Kings’ blowout win and put up career highs in just about every stat – 13 points, 9 assists, 2 steals and a three. Jeter provides that “I’m just happy to be in the NBA and not selling life insurance” type of energy on the court, which is why his role is increase on a Kings’ team in desperate need of life. But this was a blowout game, so ratchet down your expectations of Jeter moving forward. I wouldn’t attempt to predict Paul Westphal’s rotations, but Jeter seems like a speculative deep league add and nothing more.

DeJuan Blair (1.58) had a 15 point, 13 rebound double-double for the Spurs. It came against the Warriors, however, and Blair has been another guy who’s been wildly inconsistent this season. Just like last season, Blair is best when Tim Duncan sits, which may happen more as the season rolls on.

Thabo Sefolosha (1.53) is currently available in over 80% of leagues. His 13 points against Minnesota is the ceiling of what you’re going to get scoring-wise from him, but he also added 6 rebounds and a couple 2 steals in 30 minutes. He’s Shane Battier without the threes or blocks, and if that awesome image doesn’t make you want some Thabo-time, I don’t know what will.

With Carmelo Anthony sitting, Ty Lawson (1.30) saw more time on the court against the Celtics and finished with 24 points and 7 assists. Anthony is day-to-day with knee inflammation, so Lawson’s value will probably be short-lived.

Daniel Gibson got the start for the Cavs as the ineffective Joey Graham was moved to the bench. Gibson didn’t shoot particularly well (he was 4-16) but he did have 8 boards and a couple steals. Gibson is definitely worth an add if he’s available in your league.

Biggest Loser: Phoenix, in an overtime game, against Memphis? That should be money fantasy-wise for the Suns. Instead, Jason Richardson (-1.33) was 1-11 from the field, scoring 4 points, with 2 rebounds and 0 assists. J-Rich has now shot 4-19 over his last two games.

If you’re still holding onto J.J. Hickson (-0.91) for some reason, yesterday’s 9 minute, 0/1/0 line has to be the final straw. Hickson has also lost his starting job to Antawn Jamison and it’s clear that Hickson wasn’t quite ready for the role that the Cavs thrust upon him.

On Tap: Three game Thursday, the best of which probably being Orlando (15-6) at Portland (10-11). And that leads to the question on everyone’s mind: What the hell Rashard Lewis? Really, what the hell?

New Jersey (6-16) at Dallas (17-4) – Is there any human being having a better year than Kris Humphries? First he comes out of nowhere to win a starting gig with the Nets over Troy Murphy and Derek Favors and now he’s apparently dating Kim Kardashian. Well played, my friend.
