Line of the Night: While the “return” of Brandon Jennings (2.31) via 27 points (and though it wasn’t even a decent shooting performance, he did make 11-12 from the line), 7 assists, 3 steals, and 2 blocks is something for his owners to be happy about, it’s not What I’m Sayin’.

Honorable Mentions: It actually kind of makes sense that most of the Honorable Mentions come from guys who played in the All Star Game because a) they’re less rusty since they didn’t take a 5 day break, and b) THEY’RE ALL STARS. Anyway… Kevin Garnett (2.24) had 24 points (11-16 from the field), 12 rebounds, 6 assists, and 2 blocks. Chris Bosh (1.95) scored 22 points (6-6 from the line), and managed 9 rebounds, and 4 steals. Thanks for showing up Bosh! Dwyane Wade (1.87) also got up for the Heat with a near triple-double: 23 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists, and 2 steals. Kevin Love (1.80) should have Barbara Walters announcing his games with as close as he gets to 20/20 all the time. He came close again last night with 20 points (6-10 from the field), 17 rebounds, and 6 assists.

Not an All Star, but you had to kind of expect J.R. Smith (2.00) to have a nice game given that he played 42 minutes in the Nuggets 8-man rotation. Smith had 26 points (6 threes), 8 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 steals. But that’s stil not What I’m Sayin’. Other non-All Stars include: Boris Diaw (1.85) with 16 points (6-10 from the field), 9 assists, and 4 steals, and his teammate D.J. Augustin (1.40) who had 23 points (5-5 from the line), and 8 assists.

Waiver Wire Line of the Night: Here’s what I’m sayin’: Ty Lawson (1.63) had 21 points, 5 rebounds, 7 assists, and 6 steals (43% owned). Now granted, I’m Not Sayin’ he’s going to get 38 minutes a game for the rest of the season, but if the Nuggets keep him as their starting Point Guard, he’ll get 30+ and that’s good enough for the kind of numbers Patrick talked about in his post (and better than Luke Ridnour – NO JINX!). Now that I’ve written that I can see myself eating my words in about 3 games, since that’s the kind of luck I have in fantasy basketball, but based on his performance last night, and the fact that Denver wants to get rid of Raymond Felton (presumably for draft picks) I’d say Lawson is a good add (though admittedly still a little speculative).

Pick Up Lines: Carlos Delfino (1.39) had only 13 points, but got there by way of 3 threes, adding 9 rebounds and 2 steals. He’s been doing that for a good stretch now, and it’s probably why he’s 39% owned. James Harden (1.22) had 19 points with 4 threes. He’s 34% owned, which, as I think I’ve said before, is probably about right for someone of his talent at this point in the fantasy season (ie: given external factors like league size and owner attrition). Samuel Dalembert (1.18) had 18 points (8-12 from the field), and 13 rebounds and is probably not available. (47% owned) Strong game from Will Bynum (1.12) with 21 points (9-14 from the field), and 6 assists, and he’s only 4% owned. Patrick Patterson (1.11) had a nice looking game with 20 points (8-11 from the field), 5 rebounds, and 2 blocks, but the high number of minutes (for him, at least) combined with the high shooting percentage lead me to classify that one as a fluke. If he can prove it for another couple games, then we’ll upgrade his status. Mario Chalmers (0.96) could be a good second-half Point Guard pick up, especially if D-Wade gets to rest a bit more as the season goes on. Last night, Chalmers had 14 points (6-7 from the field), and 4 assists, and he’s available in 92% of leagues.

Biggest Loser: Maybe Baron Davis (-1.07) should stick to throwing alley-oops through a sunroofs. Last night, Blake Griffin, who participated in 3 nights of All Star action played 33 minutes and scored 28 points while Davis scored 2 points on 1-8 from the field to go with 1 rebound and 4 assists.

Nearly as bad were the performances from Rashard Lewis (-1.01), who had 0 points, 2 rebounds, and 0 assists, and that of Mike Bibby (-0.90) with his 0 points, 1 rebound, and 0 assists. Not a great way to start the second “half” of the season. All three teams (the Clippers, Wizards, and Hawks), got blown out with those guys at least somewhat to blame. I hope they don’t hurt your fantasy team’s chances (unless you happen to have them and are playing against me… Nope, I just checked and I don’t have the luxury of playing against any of those guys this week).

Deron Williams to the Nyets??? Are the Jazz so pissed at Dwill for running sloan out of town that they’re trading hiim to the siberia of NBA???

    • TRADE!!!

Crazy, DWill to Nets! Interested to see what you guys have to say about it. Interesting as it is from an NBA perspective, for fantasy purposes I think that DWill and Harris stay about the same, while Favors gets sucked in behind Milsap and Jafferson. I don’t think Murph will be too valuable, as I see him signing with a team like Dallas or Miami where he’ll play 30 mins for a contender but not be a focal point.

      We’ll get on it!

My initial reaction: Both Utah and New Jersey are in the bottom half of the league in pace, so neither guy is going to benefit from an increase in possessions. Williams and Harris had frosty relationships with their coaches/front office, so in this case they may both benefit slightly from some positive mojo for the first time this season. Plus the Nets could use a scorer (sorry Kris Humphries), so Williams might be able to dominate the ball on that team. A slight win-win for fantasy IMO.

Well, except for Favors, who will be buried behind Millsap for the immediate future.

But let’s not forget about the real fantasy implication trade of the day. Troy Murphy coming home to the Warriors for Brandan Wright and Dan Gadzuric. Pick up that white boy if he’s available in your league.

The word that I’ve read is that D-Will was unhappy with the organization in general and was a threat to leave via free agency in 2012. The Jazz were basically the anti-Nuggets in this situation and traded their superstar before things really spiraled out of control.

First thing I heard about the trade when I turned on sports radio today: “I guess we can rule out Jerry Sloan taking the Nets coaching job next season.”

    • TRADE!!!

Patrick, but isn’t Troy Murphy getting bought out by GS? Everything I’ve read today points in that direction, with Boston and Miami being the favorites and Orlando a distinct possibility as well. If that’s the case, then wouldn’t Murphy’s value then become severely limited?

    • http://givemetherock.com/ Patrick

Yes, you are right, he’s likely going to be bought out by the Warriors. But now that’s he’s free from Avery Johnson and the situation with the Nets, I would definitely grab him now and see where he ends up. He definitely works fantasy-wise on Miami and Boston isn’t as bad as it first seems either. It gives the C’s a chance to rest KG and if Glen Davis can play the 5 for the C’s at times, then Murphy can as well.

too bad for them, Deron is a very nice player and can be considered a superstar on the NBA.
