Troy Murphy’s long and winding road this season finally ends in Boston, as the big man has agreed to join the Celtics after being bought out by the Warriors… who acquired him in a trade from the Nets… who originally acquired him in a trade from the Pacers. It’s great that Murphy is finally freed from clutches of Avery Johnson and can get back to playing basketball, but as I said on this week’s podcast, I’m not exactly loving Murphy fantasy-wise on the C’s as much as I would have on the Heat.

It starts with the fact that the only thing in game shape for Murphy right now is his ass, so expect him to be worked into the Celtics’ rotation slowly, especially since the team has a lot of bodies to throw at the PF and C positions for the remainder of the regular season. Murphy seems like a get ready for the playoffs type guy for the C’s at this point. I would still recommend picking him up if he’s hanging around your free agent list and see what kind of minutes he gets. I wouldn’t expect anything close to vintage Murphy though.

Mike Bibby is also set to join the Heat after being bought out by the Wizards. By far the best thing about the Bibby buyout was this video that was put together to celebrate his career with Washington.

Unlike Murphy, Bibby should immediately enter the Heat’s starting lineup and push Mario Chalmers to the bench. I wouldn’t be surprised if he averaged 30 minutes a game right from the start. But unless you’re in a deep league and 10 points, 4 assists and 2 threes a game sounds like something you could use, I don’t see how Bibby plays much differently than he did on the Hawks.
