The GMTR Player Rater has finally been updated with stats from the 2011-12 season!

If you are not familiar with it, the GMTR player rater is designed to provide player ratings specifically for head-to-head (H2H) leagues. It does this by estimating the probably that a team would win a statistical category (on a per week basis) with a certain player versus without that player. The resulting probabilities can be transformed into actual fantasy wins, represented by a measure called Wins Over Replacement Player, or WARP.

These are the same numbers we use to write up our daily posts. So if a player has a WARP value of 1, they are 1 win better over the course of a week in an H2H league than an average player off the waiver wire. So adding that player to a fantasy team with an average weekly record of 5-4 would make them go 6-3 instead. If that sounds crazy good, it’s because 1 WARP is Kevin Durant and LeBron James level over the course of a season. On a per game basis, you’ll often see players better than 2 WARP simply because anything can happen in one game.

There is currently no option on the rater for those of you in roto leagues (I’ll add it to my list of improvements). You could certainly use our rankings as a guide if you play in a roto league, but there are plenty of more appropriate rankings systems out there geared towards rotisserie. In fact, the main reason I created this version of the GMTR player rater is because I was unhappy with what was currently available on the internet for evaluating players in H2H leagues.

I always welcome comments and suggestions to improve the usefulness of the tool, so feel free to leave a comment or drop me a note if you have any. I’ve received some very good feedback over the past year that – time permitting – I’ll try to incorporate. The most common suggestion has been to add categories like double-doubles, triple-doubles and assist-to-turnover ratio. Others have included allowing partial win contributions to be shown by category and to load in data from past seasons.

Obviously, there appears to be some error in the rater at the moment, with LeBron ranked way too low given his stats. checking it out now.

      Fixed now.

Note for next time. Update ALL the code and not just some of it.

Very nice tool, thank you for the hard work.
I’m in a h2h league that plays with 13 cats. (the regular 9 + fgm,ftm,3pt%,o rebs) and I love the idea that I can account for these other irregular stats.
However, I’ve noticed that the 3pt % for the rater doesn’t calculate for the rankings.
Is the rater still incomplete for this stat?
      Thanks

Thanks for the kind words about the rater and the note about 3pt% not working as intended. Turns out that the calculations with 3pt% were working as they should, but the form was defaulting to unselecting 3pt% every time the page loaded. That has been fixed now, and it should not unselect 3pt% after you select it.

I appreciate the heads up about that.
