Line of the Night: There’s not much you need to do to win Line of the Night when you score 48 points, but Kobe Bryant (2.81) got those 48 points (going 12-13 from the line helps of course), and added 5 rebounds, and 3 steals to help you out in some other categories as well.

    Honorable Mentions:
If Kobe had put up 17 less points, Derrick Rose (2.73) might have had the Line of the Night with his 31 points (4 threes), 11 assists, and 2 blocks. Of course, Stephen Jackson (2.37) also had an impressive performance with 34 points (3 threes, 12-17 from the field, 7-7 from the line), and 8 assists. Too bad his normally terrible shooting and lack of contribution in other categories still has him way down on the Player Rater.

David Lee (2.30) was actually not the first Warrior to make the list but his 20 points, 14 rebounds, and 4 steals are nothing to complain about. So, who was the best Warrior (and 3rd best line of the night after Kobe and DRose? Check the Waiver Wire Line of the Night!)

Jrue Holiday (1.85) scored 17 points (8-13 from the field), adding 6 rebounds, 8 assists, and 4 steals. He hasn’t been great, but he’s been good enough so far this year, and perhaps he’s starting to heat up…

Speaking of starting to heat up… Let’s get jazzed about Al Jefferson (2.04) putting up 30 points (13-17 from the field), 12 rebounds, and 2 blocks in his best (or maybe second best) game of the season. And another guy who put up his best (or second best) game was Tim Duncan (2.02) who scored 20 points on 9-12 from the field to go with 8 rebounds, 7 assists, and 3 blocks. It seems that perhaps the sleeping giants are waking up… Which brings me to a new (and possibly short-lived section) of GMTR’s daily recaps:

Awakening The Giant: Dorell Wright (1.72) did something last night! Bolstered by 6 threes, Wright scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds along with a steal and a block. Patrick said he was giving him until the end of the week, so he still has 2 more games in which to backslide, but perhaps playing his old team was the spark he needed to get going again. Of course, it was also an overtime game, and Stephen Curry did not play… so don’t exhale to loudly just yet. But you can wipe the sweat off your forehead, at least.

    ***

Waiver Wire Line of the Night: Nate Robinson (2.40) has kind of blown up in the 3 games he’s played for the Warriors. Yes, (once again) Stephen Curry is injured, and Golden State is hurting for another guard, but Nate Rob exploded last night for 24 points (14-14 from the line), 5 assists, and 4 steals (10% owned). That 10% ownership rate probably reflects the deep leagues where he was picked up as a speculative add since his first two games with the Warriors were not all that bad. I have already picked him up in my one Small Ball league (where I also happen to own Stephen Curry). Even if you don’t have Curry, though, if you want Points, Threes, Assists, Steals, and FTP with poor FGP and no blocks (the quintessential Small Ball player) then Nate Rob is a great add. If he keep playing like the line he put up last night, I almost don’t care when Curry comes back (as a bonus: He’s eligible at SG in Yahoo and ESPN leagues).

Pick Up Lines: I’m not sure why three of the Timberwolves starters played less than 10 minutes, but Luke Ridnour (2.38) was not one of them. He played almost 34 minutes and ended up with 22 points (3 threes, 8-11 from the field, 3-3 from the line), and 3 steals (18% owned). That was alongside Ricky Rubio who played 36 minutes, so that’s a good sign for Ridnour, who has actually been a pretty decent source of Points, Threes, and Steals so far. He isn’t getting many assists – that’s evidently Rubio’s job – but he’s at 77 on the Player Rater, so he’s worth a roster spot if he works for your team.

I have to admit, while I’ve heard of Kawhi Leonard (2.03), I had to look up what team he played for. Well, he’s a Small Forward for Spurs and in the past 2 games he’s getting 33 minutes of playing time and doing things like: 19 points (9-12 from the field), and 4 steals (4% owned). The first game was a blow out, but perhaps he played well enough in that one that he earned the chance to play a bit more. It looks like maybe the Spurs are going with Duncan at Center and letting Leonard and Richard Jefferson play the Forward positions.

Delonte West (1.35) is still starting for the Mavericks and while he only had 6 points, he went 4-4 from the line and dished 10 assists while getting 5 steals (11% owned). Tough to count on that kind of performance (and not that you really want that kind of performance even if you could count on it), but West is still averaging 21 minutes per game so far.

Evan Turner (1.28) took advantage of a blow out win over the Sacramento Volume Shooters Kings to get a near triple-double with 16 points (6-12 from the field, 4-4 from the line), 10 rebounds, and 8 assists (28% owned).

A certain Biggest Loser on the Rockets (see below) still played 29 minutes at PF, forcing Jordan Hill (1.27) to get his 12 points, 12 rebounds, and 5 blocks in only 18 minutes off the bench (5% owned). Before you run out and pick him up, I’d wait to see if a) his minutes go up after that game and b) if he can do the same thing against a team that doesn’t have two runway models in its starting five.

And I’m going to go one deeper, actually, and throw in Byron Mullens (1.11) who came in just a little bit further down from Hill. He was selected as a Deep League Waiver Wire pickup this week, not because if his runway model looks, but because he’s tall and Charlotte needs some of that (see also: Jordan Hill with 12 boards and 5 blocks in 18 minutes against the Bobcats). If only the Bobcats were in Atlanta, they could use Erin Heatherton as their new mascot.

    TIMOTHY A. CLARY/AFP/Getty Images

Biggest Loser: Luis Scola (-1.26) is definitely giving his big men teammates the chance to shine. Even against the DeSagna Diop, Boris Diaw, and Byron Mullens he could muster only 9 points on 4-12 from the field. He did have 7 rebounds, which speaks more to the Bobcats clawless front line since Scola also had 5 turnovers.

Just when you thought Rudy Gay (-1.21) was starting to pick things up he goes 7-21 from the field and 1-5 from the line for 16 points, 3 rebounds, 1 steal and 0 assists. At least they’re still giving him 38 minutes of playing time.

Praying Wright keeps playing like that. He was the only risky move I made in my draft and being my best SG, he’s scared me so far.

No mention of Chandler Parsons? 2 straight starts for the Rockets now

    • Ty

I need an advice. Should I trade Lawson and Chandler for Westbrook and Delfino?

    • http://givemetherock.com/ Patrick

If Erik had written today’s post, it would have probably been in the form of a love sonnet to Parsons. It was a great 20 point, 7 rebound game from him last night (good for #23 on the rater) as it looks like Chase Budinger is yesterday’s news.

I’d run out and grab Parsons in any league he’s available in right now simply as a speculation add, although I’d be very surprised if he continues to put up those type of scoring numbers. NBA Draft.net lists his top comp as Luke Walton, which doesn’t exactly scream fantasy stud, although he should be a nice complementary player for the Rockets.

    • http://givemetherock.com/ Patrick

      Me too.

      **Crosses fingers**

    • http://givemetherock.com/ Patrick

Tyson Chandler is playing so well right now for the Knicks that I think it’s too much to give up for Westbrook. I’d try a counter offer that didn’t involve Chandler.

    • http://nelswadycki.com/ Nels

I’d be very close to making that trade. It’s close enough for me that I’d want to know the rest of the team, and also did someone offer that to you or are you going to make that offer to someone else?

    • whip4rl

I got offered a trade unexpectedly, and it seems.. dubious at best.
      THEM: Andrea Bargnani, Rudy Gay
      MINE: Carmelo Anthony, Mo Williams

      AB: ~24/6/2
      RG: ~16/7/2-
      CA: ~27/6/4.5
      MW: ~11/2/4.5

Though the stats seem like in my favor, the situations for ALL the teams (Clips, Griz, Knicks, Raps) could be hard to read at this point in the season. Thoughts? I might be more inclined to do it if I hadn’t lost assists already 2 weeks in a row :(

Looks like someone is fed up with Gay’s slow start to the season. One rule to trading is always try to get the best player in the deal, which you would not be. But, you would be getting a whole lot of talent in return – basically trading a 1/2 draft round player for a 2/3 rounder and a 3/4 rounder.

I’d be inclined to make that trade, but it depends on how much you were using Mo WIlliams. Are using Mo Williams every or just about every night he plays? The upgrade from Mo to Bargs more than offsets the downgrade from Melo to Gay, provided he was a big part of your rotation.

    • http://givemetherock.com/ Patrick

I’m not opposed to dropping either Dudley or Afflalo since neither are playing great at the moment. But I personally wouldn’t drop either of those guys for Johnson or Korver. Johnson did close to nothing in the Raps last game and is way too inconsistent to trust. Korver is looking good right now because it seems like he’s hitting 100% of his threes, but Rip is expected back soon and that is going to cut into any value he currently has.

Got anyone else your interested in?

    • slick

I do but they’re all taken..lol..I play in a league where if someone is having a good game and u dont pick him up by halftime..he gone..tmac,jordan crawford, bayless, rush, singleton, booker, davis are whats left pretty much..so u see what im working with or lack thereof!!! Any suggestions?

    • http://nelswadycki.com/ Nels

I wouldn’t drop either of those guys for James Johnson or Kyle Korver. I thought that might have been a joke the first time I read it (also because there’s 3 question marks so close to Kyle Korver’s name). Have you looked at James Johnson’s game log? Even in a 14 team league that’s reaching… and like Patrick said, Korver will go back to what he was doing before as soon as Rip Hamilton is back.

Also, you can leave a comment using the box at the top instead of replying to an existing comment… might make it easier to read and keep the threads/discussions separate.

    • http://givemetherock.com/ Patrick

If you’re not happy with what Dudley and Afflalo are doing on your team right now, you’re REALLY not going to like what any of these other guys are doing. Short-term, Singleton and Booker are ok adds as long as they stay in the starting lineup for the Wizards. They are all bunched with Afflalo on our rater around the 150 mark, so you’d sort of be swapping players around who have similar value. Long term I still like Afflalo the best.

Other guys who are probably gone but I’d consider would be Chandler Parsons or possibly Matt Barnes. I don’t know if you are looking for center help, but I wouldn’t be surprised is Byron Mullens becomes the Bobcats starting center soon. Or if you’ve got the bench spot, stash Davis for now until he comes back for the Knicks He’s expected back at the end of January, which is only about 2-3 weeks at this point.

    • slick

Thanks guys parsons, mullens and barnes are already gone..like i said somebody have a good game by the 4th quarter you look up and they’re gone lol..Looks like I’ll stick with dudley and afflalo til they come around or somebody has a major injury.. I thought about the Baron Davis stash but I’m already stashing beasley and brook lopez so… P.S thanks for the comment box tip Nels

Boozer vs Washington or Scola at SA?

really struggling with this one, partially because I’m a huge bulls fan. Gotta feeling Boozer might go off on a bad team like he did against detroit and Scola doesn’t contribute as much in the other categories, can’t shake the feeling that scola might be the smarter more practical play though

    • Jeremy

Korver’s value is limited to as long as rip is out. Afflalo will most likely be a better long-term value because he does get minutes and you have to think his shot will start falling in a big way. I’d probably drop dudders for JJ, big contributor to a lot of categories that don’t include pts, just know what to expect

    • http://www.CoolSlice.com Jordan Grant

Guys, need some advice with JJ Hickson.  Can’t trust him.  I play him and he goes 1-5.  Bench him he goes 15 and 10.  It seems like a no brainer with Hayes out for a few weeks but he’s just so damn inconsistent.  Anybody see a silver lining to him?  Lastly, I’m debating about stealing Granger from his frazzled owner for Mo Williams.  Mo has been rock solid and is getting better.  Granger…is Granger.

    • http://nelswadycki.com/ Nels

How about Nate Robinson? He’ll only be good until Stephen Curry comes back, but who knows when that will be… I’d consider Dudley for him, but Dudley’s really only had 1 or 2 bad games out of the last 5, so I think the odds are still in his favor.

    • http://nelswadycki.com/ Nels

That’s a tough call. After Scola’s performance last night against the anorexic (like runway models, just to tie it all together) Charlotte front line, I’d probably go with Boozer… but then Scola had 28 points the game right before that… I don’t know… San Antonio’s defense up front seems pretty good, though.

    • http://nelswadycki.com/ Nels

Hickson is at #232 on the player rater, so I say dump him. Unless you really need 6-7 rebounds and a block a game with a random dice roll for points (and I don’t think you do or you wouldn’t be asking), find someone else.

As for Granger, I’d make that trade. His shooting is terrible, sure, but that can’t continue forever. Granger is better than Mo Williams at everything except his FG% and Assists, and a slight hit in turnovers… With that, he’s rated higher than Wiliams and he isn’t backing up an All Star and a former All Star. He’s not going to give you better than 42% shooting, but if you can deal with that, say hello to Points, Threes, Steals, Blocks and FT%!

    • Jeremy

think I’m gonna play both and sit Jefferson (who’s been nothing short of fantastic lately). Probably not gonna win 3′s in my matchup so boards and points are what’s needed most (as well as asts steals and blocks) all categories which jefferson doesn’t particularly shine in.

    • http://givemetherock.com/ Patrick

Danny Granger for Mo Williams? I don’t care how bad Granger’s shooting has been this season, that’s a trade you make 100% of the time.

Hickson is the type of guy you either stick in you lineup every night or flat out drop. Trying to predict the games he’s going to go off in will just drive you crazy.

First of all, love the site. Love the rater. My first stop for fantasy info nowadays.

Second, I’d like your opinion on my team.
      12 team H2H 9 cat daily start 10 bench 3 1 IR
      Punting FTs

      Here is my team:
      Rondo
      Lawson
      Conley
      Shumpert
      Richardson
      Delfino
      LBJ
      R Jefferson
      R Anderson
      Frye
      Al Jefferson
      Bynum
      Dalembert

I made a standing offer to trade Conley for Deandre and another Conley for McGee to boost my blocks as I have steals to spare and overloaded in PGs.

Need depth on the wings though and I want to target Iguodala.

I’d appreciate your analysis and suggestions. Thanks a lot

    • BradM

+1.  So relieved he finally put a good game together

    • http://givemetherock.com/ Patrick

      Hey RJ,

I’m a little short on time today for analysis purposes, but I can run your team through the grinder and come out with your expected average stats per week (assuming you rotate all your guys in during the week):

      pts 712
      reb 292
      ast 175
      stl 58
      blk 34
      to 89
      3pm 57
      fgp 48%
      ftp 74%

And here is what the average team in your league looks like:

      pts 656
      reb 267
      ast 143
      stl 52
      blk 32
      to 90
      3pm 41
      fgp 46%
      ftp 76%

So yeah, other than FT%, you look really strong. Your blocks are basically average, so you could use some more in a trade. I really like a Conley/McGee trade, Conley/Jordan not as much. Jordan is a plus shot blocker, but his rebounding numbers aren’t anything special and the rest of his stats are not good at all. If you do flip Conley, Iggy would be a nice player to target as you’d get some of those steals and assists back. Other than that, you shouldn’t have to do too much with this team – just ride the beast LeBron.

    • James

What do you guys think of Dwight Howard and DJ Augustin for Danny Granger, Raymond Felton and Ben Gordon? Should I even bother offering it?

    • Anonymous

My Danilo for Joe Johnson?  I know Danilo is way ahead of JJ in terms of the player rater as of now, but projecting for the rest of the season, do you think JJ picks his game up / outperforms Danilo?

    • http://givemetherock.com/ Erik

      Me three!

    • http://givemetherock.com/ Erik

If you’ve lost AST twice, you may consider punting it and shifting to PTS. I’d take that in a heartbeat.

    • http://givemetherock.com/ Erik

It’s a drastic shift for both teams involved being that Howard is the ultimate big man. Are you the Howard owner? I’d keep him.

    • http://givemetherock.com/ Erik

I’m going to go out on a limb and say that Danilo outperforms JJ after all is said and done. Getting occasional BLK from my SF is more fun than extra AST from an SG. For some weird reason, outside of Nene’ health issues lately, I consider Denver to be the more “stable” fantasy team overall.

    • buckets

I’m wrestling with trade options at the moment and wondered if I could ask your advice? H2H league and I could do with threes and better FT%, and I’m totally set for boards and steals… so I’ve been trying to unload Rondo for Lowry. The Lowry owner wants to expand the trade to get my Joakim Noah, but unfortunately the only other player he has that fits my needs and price is Jason Terry. I’d be overpaying too much giving Noah/Rondo for Lowry/Terry, right? Would Wall/Noah for Lowry/Terry be more of a fair swap?

    • Ty

He offered it to me. I’m on a 12 team h2h league. I have Dwight Howard. I’m punting FT, 3′s. I have Al Jefferson, Iggy, Gay, DeAndre, Okafor, Amir J, Speights, Diaw, Tony Allen.

what do you think? He wants Gay an Lawson only for Westbrook an Delfino.

    • Asdasd

i think it’s crazy he wasn’t even mentioned in the post. parsons and nate rob are easily the top FA picks right now. :D

    • Anonymous

I agree with Erik, Gallo is outperforming JJ in nearly every category (except 3s) and that’s with less minutes a game. JJ has consistently shown regression over the last 4-5 years, no reason to assume he’ll do anything but continue that trend.

    • http://nelswadycki.com/ Nels

So you already traded Chandler for Howard or something?

Anyway… If you’re punting FTP and 3s then Gay is probably a better fit than Westbrook since he’ll probably end up higher in most of the other categories.

    • Rj

      Thank you. :)

No problem – your team is set up pretty good for the year and I think the moves you mentioned should make your stronger if they happen. Let us know how it goes and good luck!

    • Ty

I’m sorry Nels. What I meant is he Wants Lawson and Chandler for Westbrook and Delfino. I m really on the edge about this one.

    • http://givemetherock.com/ Patrick

Noah has been pretty bad so far this season – averaging only 26 minutes a game thanks to some shooting woes and the fact that the ranging Turk Omer Asik has been solid for the Bulls off the bench. That being said, Noah should improve once his shot starts falling again, so I wouldn’t necessarily sell on him too low. So yes, I think Rondo/Noah is too much to give up for Lowry/Terry.

Although Rondo is a good guy to package if you are looking to improve FT%, Wall/Noah is much more of an even trade and could be a nice get for you if Lowry keeps playing the way he has so far this season. Maybe the Bulls fan Nels can chime in on why I should be more optimistic on Noah, but if you can ship off the struggling Noah and Wall, I think that’s a trade without too much downside for you.

    • http://nelswadycki.com/ Nels

Without any other info, this would be a sort of fair trade (though you’d still lose because Chandler is playing so well right now and Delfino is basically a waiver wire player).

But if you take out FT% and 3s, then it makes it an even worse trade for you. Even looking at just the last week of stats, you take a huge hit in Rebounds and Blocks, and even in Steals. If you are already dominating those categories because of Dwight Howard, then maybe you could consider this trade, but only if you’re winning by enough that you can replace Chandler’s contributions with Westbrook’s and still win.
