No, it’s not 2006. But someone forgot to tell Tim Duncan (1.79) that last night. He played like he was back in his prime and back then he’d definitely get GMTR’s Line of the Night. The Big Fundamental picked apart whatever Phoenix calls its defense.  He produced a sweet line with of 24 points (10-14 from the field), (which probably will give Marcin Gortat nightmares for the rest of the week) and 11 rebounds. He also dished out 4 assists and brought his ubiquitous 2 blocks. Classic. Vintage. Impressive. Sorry folks, it’s 2012 and lines like these are now the exception and not the rule.

Honorable Mentions: Danilo Gallinari (1.68) wound up with a weird night at least as far as fantasy basketball is concerned. He finished with 18 points, but that came off him shooting 2-6 from the field, 2-4 from downtown and 12-12 from the line. What? Yeah, I warned you it was weird. He shot 33% without really killing your FG% while winning you FT%. His 4 assists were a nice addition to his odd offensive performance, but hey stranger things have happened.

David Lee (1.50), meanwhile looks like he’s pretty much the only player who is acclimating well to the Warriors’ new coach, Marc Jackson. He dropped 24 points (10-12 from the field), grabbing 6 rebounds, and it must have been some kind of special occasion as he added a rare (for him) 2 blocks. Nonetheless, I’m sure his owners must be beaming with pride.

In spite of Gallinari’s impressive performance the Jazz crushed, destroyed and bullied the Nuggets into submission. Paul Millsap (1.31) led the carnage with 26 points (12-19 from the field) and 12 rebounds. At this point, it’s safe to say that Derrick Favors and his corresponding fantasy value is now shelved until further notice (or if Jefferson or Millsap get injured).

As each Detroit game goes by, I must say that Greg Monroe (1.23) and his efficient play has impressed and entertained me more and more. This time, against the Golden State Warriors, Monroe posted 25 points which included him going 13-14 from the line (a sight rarely seen from big men nowadays) and 8 boards. We’ve heard him compared to a healthy David West. But I, however, feel that would be shortchanging Monroe at this point. He’s far more dominant and able to impact your team’s percentages to a far more effective degree that I’d call him an improved version of West.

Waiver Wire Line of the Night: Ekpe Udoh (1.01) (2% owned) had a nice night with 10 points, 6 rebounds, 3 steals, and 4 blocks. That’s fine and dandy. Sure. But as long as Andris Biedrins is healthy and delivering consistently mediocre lines, the undersized Udoh will have to wait for this season’s 15 minutes of fantasy fame.

Pick Up Lines: Speaking of blasts from the past, Detroit’s Tayshaun Prince (0.99) played like a revitalized champion last night finishing with 20 points and 7 rebounds. Prince has been known to flirt with nice lines every now and then but his peripheral stat contributions leave a lot to be desired leaving him painted as a  “vanilla” kind of fantasy option. And so it comes as to no surprise that he’s only owned in 20% of leagues.

We’ve told you to go and grab Kawhi Leonard (0.93), we’ll likely continue to do so as seeing that more than 80% of leagues have him in their FA pools. I mean wasn’t his  12 points and 8 rebounds good enough for your discerning fantasy tastes?

Gordon Hayward (0.88) made the most of Josh Howard‘s absence due to injury to deliver a solid performance. He chipped in 19 points, while adding 2 blocks. This is a temporary issue as Howard appears poised to eat into his productive floor time once he comes back. Stay away, unless you’re in a 20-man league or deeper.

Biggest Loser: of the night was ME as I got Channing Fried (-1.38) in not one but TWO leagues by his awful, painful, and forgettable performance.
He went 0-7 from the field to give, uh, ZERO points and two rutty boards. This will be the only and last time you will ever see the words “Channing Frye” and “Consistency” in the same sentence this season (at least from me)
Remember how cool Paul Millsap’s line was? Well that came at the expense of Nene Hilario (-1.02), who in fairness to him did manage to score 18 points and get 6 rebounds  for Denver. He did, however also accumulate 5 turnovers and went 2-7 from the line. Gah!

One grimy Nugget deserves another as Andre Miller (-0.98) had an awfully quiet night with just 5 points, 0 rebounds, and 2 assists.

Derrick Favors (-0.53) managed seven minutes and change to end up delivering a yawn-inspiring 2-point and 3-rebounds line. Bye-bye Derrick, we’ll talk about you and your fantasy potential next season.

With only three games last night, it was kind of quiet. Week four! w00t! w00t!

      Baron Davis?

Word has it that he’s feeling a bit better and may debut soon. If he’s available in your league, when do you think it would be a good time to pull the trigger?

what about eric gordon? when can we expect him back? is he an on going injury risk?

    • http://givemetherock.com/ Patrick

Haha, you got the jump on us. As we mention in today’s podcast (coming shortly) the time is now on Davis. Looks like he’s starting to practice this week and could be back on the court in a couple weeks. I’d add him now if you’ve got the room to spare on your team.

      My Team:

      Mike Conley
      Russell Westbrook
      Jeff Teague
      Delonte West
      Andre Iguodala
      Jonas Jerebko
      Kevin Garnett
      Carlos Boozer
      Pau Gasol
      Javale McGee
      Channing Frye
      Grant Hill
      Kawhi Leonard
      Tyrus Thomas

I’m currently 2-1.  It’s a 12 team H2H league with standard 9 categories.  Any suggestions on what type of moves I should be looking to make?

    • http://nelswadycki.com/ Nels

For what it’s worth, Duncan’s line was the lowest Line of the Night score so far this season.

    • BradM

I’m pretty set at guard so I think I can afford to stash Davis.  Current guards:

      PG – Derrick Rose
      PG – Ricky Rubio
      PG – Iman Shumpert
      SG – Andre Igoudala
      SG – Marcus Thornton

Drop Shumpert to pick up Davis?  Other option is Matt Barnes, but I’d be awfully guard-heavy if I made that move

    • http://givemetherock.com/ Patrick

The Knicks have preemtively moved Shumpert to shooting guard in preparation of Davis, so I think he’ll retain his value even when Davis returns. I’d still pick up Davis, but Barnes would be the guy I’d drop to do it. If that makes you too guard heavy, then you’d be better off trying to trade one of your guards for a forward/center rather than dropping Shumpert to keep Barnes.

    • Tmorgan

Would you pick up Devan Harris att he expense of Stucky, Ridnour, Batum or Harrington?

What are your thoughts on him going forward?

    • Tmorgan

Or Nate Robinson – Would you pick him up?

    • http://givemetherock.com/ Patrick

The internet is awfully quiet with any additional news about Gordon other than the first report that he’d be out 2-3 week with that knee injury. That was about 1 and a half weeks ago, and although I have not heard anything negative about his progress, I’d assume at this point his return is going to be more like 3 weeks than 2 since we’d probably have heard something by now if he was going to play in the next few days.

Gordon’s games played over his short career are 62, 56 and 2 (so far this season). I think he’s a huge injury risk going forward myself.

Hey Tullsta, here is where I project your team to do on a weekly basis:

      pts 652
      reb 307
      ast 152
      stl 61
      blk 43
      to 94
      3pm 25
      fgp 46%
      ftp 75%

And here is what your average opponent is like:

      pts 690
      reb 281
      ast 151
      stl 55
      blk 34
      to 98
      3pm 45
      fgp 46%
      ftp 76%

The first thing I noticed is that you said you were 2-1, so it sounds like your league awards a single win to the team that wins the most categories during the week. In case, I’d strong suggest going big with your team and don’t even try to compete in some of the small guy stats like threes and possibly even assists. Your goal should be to be so strong in the big man categories that there is almost no chance you’ll lose those on a weekly basis, and therefore, almost no chance that you won’t get that win.

If you do that, then you don’t need Channing Frye since he’s your primary contrbutor to threes. It’ll be tough to get much value for him in a trade since he’s playing horribly, so it’s possible you want to wait until he has a hot streak (cross your fingers) and flip him them. Since you also have the league’s top shot blocker in McGee, you should build around that a little more. It be nice to see if you could get another shot blocker not named Tyrus Thomas to complement McGee.

In terms of add/drops, I think Jerbko, West and possibly even Thomas can be dropped provided there are suitable replacements for them in your league. I’d focus on being as strong as you can in points/boards/blocks/steals (with your guards)/TOs and the percentages and pickup guys who can help in those categories.

      Good luck!

Given that Stephen Curry may play on Tuesday, I’d hold off on Robinson for now.

Granted, I’m no Devin Harris fan, but as long as he’s splitting time at PG with Earl Watson I would not drop any of the guys you mentioned to pick him up.

    • Orchix

I’m debating between picking up one of three forwards: Chandler Parsons, Tyrus Thomas or Booker. I like Parsons’ versatility but I also need blocks which Thomas gives. Which one would be the best going forward?

    • http://givemetherock.com/ Patrick

If you need blocks like a junkie needs a hit, then I could maybe see adding Thomas. The problem is that he’s doing absolutely nothing else on the court at the moment – his rebounding numbers are even pathetic – so in terms of overall value it’s Parsons all the way.

    • Jim

All is forgiven for Dorell Wright? He was decent this week, so I assume he’s undroppable in a 12×14 league, but are we expecting him to keep improving?

    • Ibaka Blocka

Should I consider trading Ibaka away for Brook Lopez in a weekly league? I’m thinking stashing Brook may be a better play than riding this Ibaka roller coaster. Thanks!

    • Anonymous

I’ve had the (mis)fortune of having Tyrus for all of last week. HIs 8 blocks were nice & 89% FT on 9 FTs…..but he brought nothing else to the table. At least he doesn’t turn over the ball alot. Still not sure why he can’t get 7+ rebounds a game though….

    • Anonymous

^ IMO it’s hard to know what way to go without knowing the rest of your roster. How’s your blocks look like, and do you need scoring?

    • Anonymous

LOL, the lack of rebounding reminds me of this priceless quote that MJ made referring to Stacey King in the book ‘The Jordan Rules’ (highly recommended read BTW):

“You ever hear of a guy, six-eleven maybe and two hundred sixty
pounds, a guy big and fat like that and he can’t get but two rebounds,
if that many, running all over the damn court and he gets two rebounds?
Big guy like that and he gets one rebound. Can’t even stick his shit
into people and get more than that…Big, fat, fat guy. One rebound in
three games. Power forward. Maybe they should call it powerless
      forward.”

    • http://nelswadycki.com/ Nels

He can’t get 7+ rebounds a game because he is Tyrus Thomas. True fact.

    • http://nelswadycki.com/ Nels

What’s the argument for Parsons over Booker? Am I the only one who has not yet gone down on Parsons?

    • Anonymous

^ Truff right there. I’ve been drinking the usage/per min stats kool-aid for a long time on this guy…..

    • http://nelswadycki.com/ Nels

I would expect him to continue to improve, thought that’s still not saying much at this point. Not sure if he’ll get back to a 2nd/3rd round pick type value, but he should be able to at least get back some amount of respect.

    • http://nelswadycki.com/ Nels

      Agreed.

That said, Lopez should be a decent source of blocks, and his Points and FT% will give you a boost in those categories if you think you can wait and you want those strengths down the stretch.

    • http://givemetherock.com/ Patrick

Haha, I’m not sure, but I look at Trevor Booker and I see Shane Battier without the threes. He’s ranked 157 on the rater since becoming a starter. If I needed a spot start I could see using him in a 12-team league, but long term I just don’t know where the upside is.

    • http://givemetherock.com/ Patrick

This is one reason to like Parsons http://youtu.be/onn7qXOq2_s

    • T’dUP

Is Batum worth using my #1 waiver spot on? I am leaning towards it as our waiver wire is very thin.. Another available free agent being Chandler parsons. I’d be dropping somebody along the lines of tyrus Thomas or Rodney Stuckey.
      thanks!

    • http://givemetherock.com/ Patrick

Oh yeah, adding Batum and dropping Thomas is a must do move right now. The one thing that Thomas is doing for fantasy teams is block shots – and he’s averaging 1.5 a game this season to Batum’s 1.2 – so you won’t even lose out too much there.
