A special strategy podcast dealing entirely with fantasy basketball trades. We discuss the three ways we evaluate trades, buying low and selling high, the psychological aspect of trading, 2-for-1′s, trading for injured players, trades in keeper leagues and the trade veto system. There is more information stuffed into this hour than I thought would be humanly possible.

Note: In this special strategy podcast, we decided to forgo our usual discussion of current events around the league as well as our waiver wire recommendations for the week. Those will be back for next week’s podcast.

Love the photo you chose! Priceless. Well not really, as we know everything and everyone has a price.

It’s back. I must have accidentally deleted it when I updated the post for the SI link.

what do you think about conley for tyreke? i will be getting tyreke. I know conley would be safer pick but….

    • http://givemetherock.com/ Erik

I suspended my bias in favor of Conley for a brief moment and check out the rater. Apparently it agrees with me. We’ve got Mike @ 40th overall while Tyreke is @ 80. I still believe Reke’s got some upside to him, but Conley’s already currently living up to his. So, I’d keep Conley.

should i trade Lamarcus + Dorell Wright for Monroe + Calderon? Is Calderon gonna fall off?

I have an excess of points, am punting TO’s, and looking for assists and better %s

So much great stuff in that picture. And it’s ever so slightly basketball related thanks to a little Lakers’ prop.

conley and noah for irving and joe johnson? Which two would you rather have going forward?

    • Cortez

Depends, I feel like Noah/Conley will be more “stable”.. while JJ and Irving will have better #’s but more up-down games.. I like JJ and Irving, but do you need RB’s?

    • http://givemetherock.com/ Patrick

In terms of Jose Calderon’s performance on the court – it’s right in line with what we expected him to do – so it’s not so much that he’s going to fall off. But there is a chance that he 1) loses his starting job if the out of playoff contention Raptors decide they want to play the kids, 2) gets traded, or 3) injuries himself (he’s been fairly injury prone in the past).

But in terms of their YTD performance, that trade actually looks a lot better than I was expecting. It’s almost even in terms of WARP value (although Aldridge and Wright have been slightly better). Wright has gone back to putting up some anemic looking lines lately, so if you are on the hunt for %’s and assists, it’s not a bad deal for you (although one of Calderon’s selling points as a PG is that he has very low TOs). The trade gets my ever so slight seal of approval.

    • http://givemetherock.com/ Patrick

As Cortz mentioned, it probably depends on exactly what types of stats you’re looking for (boards, steals, blocks versus points and threes). In terms of overall YTD value, it’s very very close, but I’d probably ever so slightly go with Conley/Noah because Noah has been playing much better after a slow start to the season.

I would love to find a way to get Irving on any team, though.

    • EJ

hmm would you do irving for noah straight up then? noah is playing over his head right now and i fear for his health.

    • http://givemetherock.com/ Patrick

It’s a drastic swap of stats going from Noah to Irving, but just in terms of overall value I’d rate Irving over Noah. Plus, as you mentioned, Noah has been injury prone over the last couple of years and carries some risk with him.

I’m kinda worried about his him losing stats to Bayless. He recently had a 6 game streak of single digit scoring and in two of those games only got 4 and 3 assists… Granted he got a whopping 17 assists in one game too. Also Bayless usually starts at SG not PG so I guess Calderon’s pretty stable in the rotation right? (barring injury)

What about if I traded Jamal Crawford instead of Wright?

    • http://nelswadycki.com/ Nels

I like that trade better, but then I kind of hate Jamal Crawford and I really like Greg Monroe… I think that Wright has the potential to produce more than Crawford down the line, though.
