I guess that’s one way to take advantage of the All Star Break (especially since some teams have 3 games in 4 days in this already traditionally short week).

Line of the Night: Dwyane Wade (2.71) was 25% of the Heat’s 120 output with his 30 points (11-16 from the field) adding 10 assists, 3 steals, and 2 blocks.

    Honorable Mentions:
Kyrie Irving (2.19) continued making his case for Rookie of the Year with 25 points (3 threes, 6-6 from the line), 5 rebounds, 8 assists, 2 steals, and 2 blocks. Can’t argue with that at all.

The Blazers racked up 137 points against what looked like a Spurs Moneyball team or something (starters: Corey Joseph, Danny Green, DeJuan Blair, Kawhi Leonard, Richard Jefferson). Jamal Crawford (2.14) took advantage with 20 points (5 threes, 6-8 from the field) and 8 assists while teammate Gerald Wallace (2.02) put up 19 points (6-10 from the field, 6-6 from the line), 10 rebounds, 6 assists, and 3 blocks. Plenty of assists to be made in that game with LaMarcus Aldridge (1.86) also scoring 21 points (8-12 from the field, 5-5 from the line), adding 7 rebounds and 2 steals.

Marcus Thornton (1.89) and the Kings other two guards continued to excel in the 3-guard lineup with 23 points (4 threes), 3 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals.

Brandon Knight (1.86) probably won’t win ROY, but he seems to have somehow hurdled the rookie wall he struggled with in late January. Knight scored 24 points (4 threes, 8-12 from the field, 4-4 from the line) with 5 rebounds.

Two big men fill up the stat line (and even shoot pretty decently from the line): Marc Gasol (1.81) had 15 points, 14 rebounds, 7 assists, and a huge 5 blocks, while Greg Monroe (1.79) scored 19 points, grabbed 11 rebounds, also had 7 assists, and got 3 steals.

    ***

Waiver Wire Line of the Night: Kawhi Leonard (2.31) played a season-high 43 minutes with Tim Duncan and Tony Parker (and Tiago Splitter, I guess) sitting on the bench. Leonard’s 24 points (9-14 from the field), 10 rebounds, and 5 steals (8% owned) was by far his best game of the season. Leonard is averaging 24 minutes for the season (25 minutes over the last 5 games shows that it’s not really trending up), so while he’s definitely worth owning at #135 on the Player Rater, it’s a little tough to decide when to play him with the Spurs somewhat random decisions to sit or start guys.

Pick Up Lines: Isaiah Thomas‘s (1.63) ownership rate is up to 40% thanks to the Kings 3-guard-lineup-that-actually-seems-to-work. The Kings lost to the Heat, but Thomas scored 24 points (5 threes, 5-5 from the line), with 5 assists.

Alonzo Gee (1.52) came off the bench to help the Cavs pull off the win with 16 points (5-5 from the line), 11 rebounds, and 2 steals in only 25 minutes (13% owned). Over the last 15 games, Gee is #117 on the Player Rater. He’s a good rebounder for a SG and also gives you some nice steals and a bit of threes. Daniel Gibson (1.18), on the other hand, pretty much only gives you threes, except when he somehow gets up for 8 points and 3 blocks (8% owned). He’s been in an out this season, so definitely make sure he’s in before you consider picking him up.

Speaking of guys who only give you threes: Marco Belinelli (1.14) is averaging 30 minutes a game (thanks Eric Gordon) but only rarely putting up fantasy-relevant lines like 15 points (3 threes) and 6 rebounds (20% owned). Over the last month he’s only at #151, which I guess makes him the exception that proves the 30 minute rule…

Lavoy Allen (0.71) started his first game at Center for the 76ers, playing a season-high 29 minutes and scoring 14 points with 5 rebounds and 2 blocks (1% owned). Elton Brand sat with a thumb injury, and will be out again tonight, so if you want to play in a FREE $100 Prize Fantasy NBA Contest Tonight At Daily Joust, Allen could be a really nice value pick (and yes, I’m putting my money literally where my mouth is [okay, where my typing fingers are] and picking Allen as one of my PFs in the contest for tonight).

    Biggest Loser:
DeMarcus Cousins (-0.49) only had 9 points and while he did have 7 rebounds, 1 steal and 1 block, he also shot 3-13 from the field and turned it over 3 times.

My decision to go with Matt Bonner over Marco Belinelli in a “I need a guy who can hit threes and plays on Tuesday” was a bad choice indeed.

    • Mike

But for the next couple weeks he still seems like a legit add, no?

    • http://givemetherock.com/ Patrick

Yeah, while Splitter is out with that calf strain, he should be in for solid minutes on most nights and is worth an add if your going small. I guess he was just more or less given the night off with the other Spurs stars.

Forget about Manu, Parker + Duncan + Bonner = the Spurs big 3!

    • Cortez

Im actually dropping Bonner for Blatche, who is slated to come back now after the allstar break!

    • Ly

Who would you play today? All of my players are practically playing…

      Curry Vasquez
      Wall
      Isaiah Thomas
      Jr Smith
      Humphries
      BLopez
      Pau Gasol
      Bynum
Except joe johnson, wilson chandler, zbo

Hey guys, what’s your take on how Wilson Chandler will fit onto the Nuggets team?  I didn’t really watch the Nugs last year, but just from looking at stats, it seems like he had a down half after getting traded from the Knicks.  I just picked him up (had an expendable spot), and was curious what I should expect from him.

    • http://givemetherock.com/ Patrick

Depends on what types of stats your looking for. But just in terms of overall value, I’d probably sit Lopez first since he’s expected to play limited minutes tonight. He’s also got a tough matchup in Dwight Howard and the Magic.
Vasquez would also be an option, but he’s got a nice matchup against the Cavs. If you need to sit two, my second would probably be Smith unless you need threes.

    • Ronald

What do you think about a Lin for Ibaka trade?

If Lin isn’t enough for Ibaka, what kind of PG is in the Ibaka-tier?

    • Ronald

And also, giving up Humphries for Mario Chalmers.

Which trade would you make? Ibaka to get Lin or Humphries to get Chalmers?
      Thanks

    • http://givemetherock.com/ Patrick

Yeah, he was down a bit after leaving the Knicks, but the same could be said of everyone who plays under D’Antoni (well, maybe not Danilo Gallinari). Chandler is sort of a prototypical athletic wing. He’s probably at his best on breaks and getting fed on cuts to the rim, but he does have a decent jump shot too and has legit three point range.

From an improvement standpoint, he’s still only 24 years old, so he should actually be better than he was last season. Once Gallinari gets back, he’ll probably be the team’s third or so option on offense, but I’d guess he’s able to carve out a pretty nice role where he sees 30-33 minutes a game and averages something like 15 points, 5-6 boards, 1.5 threes a steal and a block a game with decent percentages. That would probably put him somewhere in the 50-70 range on our player rater – which is starter material in all types of leagues.

Need some advice: Would you trade Lawson and Holiday for Jennings and Brandon Knight?

    • http://givemetherock.com/ Patrick

Based on the way all of those guys have been playing lately, both those trades are around even value. I don’t really trust Chalmers all that much (and he’s been on the decline since Wade has come back) and I’m not as high on Lin as some other people.

That being said Ibaka is going absolutely crazy right now with those blocks, so I’d really try to find a way to keep him unless you can really get an upgrade at PG – like a Deron Williams, Stephen Curry, Kyle Lowry or even Kyrie Irving is playing really well right now. Some people might consider Lin to be in that group, but I remain a little skeptical.

Those guys might end up being a tier above Ibaka, but I’d shoot high at the moment since he has 3 10+ block games so far this month. Otherwise, I’d rather keep Ibaka and opt for the much less exciting Chalmers over Lin.

No jarrett jack or tyreke evans love?  I think it’s time to say bye to grevais as the starter

    • slick

14 team h2h 9 cat daily changes…should i play ayon vs clev, lopez vs magic or teague vs ny…im leaning towards teague he’s been struggling as of late but i believe with iso joe hurt he might actually get to play pg tonight..who’s the better play

    • http://givemetherock.com/ Patrick

I’d probably go with Teague as well. Nice matchup with NY plus JJ missing the game likely means some extra minutes.

    • http://givemetherock.com/ Patrick

How do you feel about Brandon Knight? Over the last month, the Lawson/Holiday duo has been worth 0.71 wins/week in your average fantasy league while Jennings/Knight has been worth 0.82. Knight has been all over the place this season though, so that end of the deal is the risky one. Still, Knight has been playing very well lately and if he can find a consistent 30 minutes a game Jennings/Knight will outplay Lawson/Holiday. If you’re a risk taker, I’d make the trade.

    • http://givemetherock.com/ Patrick

Yep, looks like we might be done with Vasquez in the starting role for the Hornets. Jack already saw 12 more minutes on the court than him last night, so he’s a starter in name only at this point.

    • Ly

Humphries (left calf) will not play Wednesday against the Magic, Colin Stephenson of the New Jersey Star-Ledger reports. -
A news status from yahoo,Would it be safe to play Brook? I am in need of the  rebounds and blocks, would he be a good option since he is the only big man?

    • http://givemetherock.com/ Patrick

I think Lopez’s minutes are going to be limited to the low 20′s no matter if Humphries is playing or not. I’m sure the Nets will just roll with more of Shelden Williams and the great Johan Petro because winning the war is more important than the battle at this point.

Still, if you need boards and blocks, I’d go with Lopez over someone like Vasquez, who is not going to get you those stats. At least Lopez will grab some rebounds and hopefully block a shot while he’s on the court.

    • Philosurfer3

I just did a 3 for 1 trade to get Melo. Because of that, I had 2 open spots and I picked up Jamal Crawford & Isaiah Thomas. I was wondering if I should stick with those 2 or if I should drop one for Zach Randolph.

I am in an 8 team yahoo h2h league. Here’s the rest of my team:

Westbrook, J.Crawford, Holiday, Gallinari, R.Gay, Bosh, B.Lopez, Pekovic, J.Jack, Love, Lawson, Melo, I.Thomas.

      Thanks,
      Kyle

    • David

i’d drop jjack or isaiah for zbo, probably jjack because of isaiah’s upside. zbo doesnt block or anything but he is 20 10 guy if healthy and grizz has one of the best playoff schedule.

    • http://givemetherock.com/ Patrick

Yeah, definitely try to find a way to get Randolph on your team if you can. Sounds like he’s going to be participating in full practices after the break and should be back around the beginning of March, so you shouldn’t have to sit on him very long.

As far as who to drop that is as tough one, as both Crawford and Thomas have been playing well lately. I’d probably continue to ride Thomas as long as he’s starting for the Kings and putting up ridiculous scoring numbers. Since Crawford was on waivers when you picked him up, I’d drop him for Randolph and he might still be there if Thomas falls off and you need to swap them again.

    • nuggs3

Can/should I drop gooden and/or morrow for blatche and/or hawes? Im currently rolling/struggling at center/power forward with just al Harrington and gooden. Thanks for your help, nels and/or Patrick

    • http://nelswadycki.com/ Nels

If those are your only Centers, then I’d say Morrow for Blatche is a pretty good swap. Morrow might heat up again, but he might not. It sounds like Blatche is as likely to play as Gooden next week after the break… still rolling the dice with either of them… I definitely would not go with Hawes. He’s been day-to-day almost every day this season and rotoworld says he’s going to see a foot specialist over the break. Not a good sign if you need a warm body to plug in your lineup.
